G'day
Just asking if anyone here has fitted an electronic ignition to a 1980s MK2 2L Escort, the RS is demanding one for christmas and of course it will only accept the best . If anyone has fitted there RS with a electronic ignition, could you please tell me a good make/brand to use. I would also like to purchase one that requires no permament modifercations so if we need to revert to points we can do ao if required. -reg |

Hey,
I have used a Pertronix Ignitor 2 kit before and they seem to be pretty good they can adapt to 4,6 or 8 cylinders and are a very good unit, they have a magnetic pick up that sits where the points use to and get rid of the condenser as well as the points, they will trigger any coil and give a stronger spark. there is no drilling required and the module sits inside the dizzy and all you see is an extra wire that goes to the + on the coil as well as the normal black wire that goes on the -, they will work on 8 - 16 v so you don't need to run a new wire if you have a ballast resistor in your wiring they install in about 30min or less so yeah, I was using mine with a GT40r coil on a 6 cly TD corty worked very well, the only reason I’m not longer using it is that I have upgraded to a crane cams HI - 6 ignition MSD so yeah can't beat multiple spark. Um can really tell you more about it, this is the ling for the Ignitor. http://www.pertronix.com/prod/ig/ignitor/default.aspx |

I had mine done thru Performance Ignitions in Ringwood victoria. Its perfect for a daily driver, but I had problems when I tried to fit it on a worked motor. Its important to let them know what the application is as the dizzy has to be re-graphed depending on your motor spec.

Fist thanks to 75Cortina and Whooligan...but this is what I ended up with, soucred through my local Aussie auto store.
http://www.cranecams.com/?show=brows...umber=700-0300 Installed new points and plugs and set the timming on the RS just after purchase about 3000km ago huge improvement on performance initianaly but a stead decline ever since checked the points last week and they looked shot also the timming has seemed to retard itself which has turned me to this have not installed it yet but will let you know how it all turns out. |
