But still own about 8% of the company that owns AM...

Mitch - let me know if you need any pics, I should be able to come up with one or two once you've decided what type of car...

And they own Ghia (the famed coachbuilder), Daimler (Jaguar association) and Lagonda (Aston Martin association) as dormant marques.

They also bought the Rover name to protect their Land Rover badge, the idea was that it could be potentially devalued if someone else bought it and turned out crap (waits for sarcastic comments with baited breath).

Mate I did Vis Comm and Design in VCE. It was my best subject and I spent countless hours and late nights on it; neglecting most of my other subjects :P

I was going to design a car for one of my major pieces but there is a lot to it, plus a lot of others have been there done that. I'm not sure how the subject is structured any more but we only got about half a semester to research what you want to design (like a watch for example) and to do it properly it takes a long time - as much as the time you spend doing the actual design - and the second half of the semester to design a separate piece relating to it (like a poster/advertisement/model on that original design). So you won't have a lot of time to design something as complex as a car.

But anyway, my piece of advice is to be more open-minded about your research. You will be surprised where you can pick up fresh ideas from. For example, check any car maker's for ideas and don't limit yourself to supercars. Think about other areas that you can get design cues and influences from - jets (Lamborghini, SAAB, and BMW have done similar), high speed boats, it could be really anything that you get your research - it doesn't specifically have to be from vehicles - organic shapes/textures, other areas in technology, simply anything.

Ford recently bought the name Rover, to stop the Chinese company that has MG from bringing out a Rover SUV - they already did and are still in business.

Actually I recall Ford's acquisition of the Rover name happening in Q3-Q4 2006 - quite a while ago. There was also a bit of speculation earlier last year that Ford would offload or significantly reduce their share of Mazda to raise capital - which had me worried for a while!

Mate, The yanks are really into using older vehicles as inspiration ie: the current mustang shape. Why not take a classic aussie muscle car as a styling que and modernise it. Something like the XB GT Coupe, not only would it look awesome it might save some time. No need for it to be a super car and you would be capitilising in the resurgence in muscle car interest. Its just my 5 cents worth mate.

Cheers

Modern XB Coupe is not as silly as it sounds.

Especially with moderm day reverse cameras to fix that HUGE blind spot behind...
