Just because they are part of the same company doesnt mean the cars are the same. Thats like saying a Holden is the same as a Subaru (GM).

Yes my Suzuki motorcycles are damn near bulletproof.

Personally I recommend if your going Asian to buy a Mazda. I had a 1991 Ford Laser and the Mazda engine in it was awesome. Most new cars these days don't pull as hard or rev as cleany as the old Laser.

I'd say go a Mazda 3 preferrably a SP23.

Toyotas are junk steer clear of them.

From information I have come across (Notice I am not saying it is gospel - do your own research) a lot of the Kia vehicles have been based on the Mazda which in the early days was supposed to be based on the Austin A30. The early Barina's were also apparently made by Kia and re-badged.

I would like the comments on these sort of threads to be restricted to only those that own or have owned a particular vehicle and can therefore make factual comments rather than someone who heard from a mate, who heard from his mate, who heard from his mate who overheard someone telling his mate who heard from his mate at the pub.

It gets all to emotive because those with the most violent of opinions USUALLY only have hearsay upon which to make their outrageous comments and are frequently so loyal to one particular brand that they will never hear anything good about any other brand and as such would never drive let alone own any other type of vehicle so that they would be in a position from personal experience to make an informed comment either for or against. For example I have never driven or owned an XR6 Turbo, but how easy would it be for me to make scathing comments about their performance and handling - I wouldn't have a clue, but I could vehemently rehash and embellish something I heard at the pub from a Holden supporter - he has probably never driven one either but he would love to rubbish its reputation - give him another beer and the level of his vilification would increase in direct proportion to the volume of alcohol consumed.

This is what is happening here and as a result the person who asked an innocent question, instead of getting informed comment is unfortunately getting parochial diatribe from a lot of individuals with no "ACTUAL" experience to be able to make an informed comment to assist with the original question.

Iv'e owned 3 Suzuki cars, 2 Swifts and a Baleno, the Swifts were great, no problems at all, the Baleno was a nice car but the gearbox smashed itself just out of warranty, a common problem apparantly because they use the same gearbox out of the 1.3 Swifts and put them in the 1.6 Baleno's, obviously the gearbox can't cope with the extra load of the 1.6 motor,...... cost a fortune to fix it as well.

I have recently sold my 2007 Mitsi Lancer VRX, a very boring uninspiring, non-involving, characterless drive.

The paint on Mitsubishi cars is also absolutely appalling!!.....it is so thin its ridiculous.
I got a few minor stone chips on the bonnet and I could not believe how thin the paint was on this thing, I only kept it for a couple of months and got rid of it quick smart!!

The paint issue with Mitsi Motors appears to be a very common complaint, do a google or check some Mitsi Forums, there are a lot of unimpressed Mitsi customers......I for one will never own another Mitsubishi for this very reason.

My father is on his third Hyundai now and he loves them, each one has never missed a beat, he currently has a 2007 Elantra.

My parents are currently in Europe for a couple of months and I was driving around in his Elantra for about 3 weeks before I got my XR4 and I was very very impressed!!

It is extremely comfortable (unlike the XR4)......it is very quiet (unlike the XR4) and it never ever made so much as a squeek, let alone a rattle in the whole 3 weeks I used it (unlike the XR4)

But I love the Fez though, whenever it rattles or my backside is completely numb after the long drive to work or I curse it for drinking petrol like there's no tomorrow or the radio decides it's just not going to work today.......I just get out and look at it,..... "damn it's an awesome looking car!!"
