Your right in theory, but just try and find a delivery mileage one under 180K USD. There is a lot of RHD conversion amortisation built into that 550K, all the other cars you mentioned are "mass" produced in RHD.

From what I have read, the GT is, overall, a better grand tourer/supercar than the equivalent aged makes/models mentioned above. Ford got a lot of credit on all fronts with the GT when it was released.

I know that if I could, I would take one over all the cars you have mentioned above, even though its 4 years behind in technology, and even at 550K. They knock out Fezza's and Lambos every day, but you'll wait another 30-40 years for another GT. IF they build another one.

To many, thats priceless.

Eh. I've never been about buying a car for image. In this case the battle is won by the Italians anyway.

Every single car I listed is faster then the GT in almost every possible measure, and some, like the 911 Turbo, can be very easily driven daily. Faster, can drive it every day, $230,000 less?

As is the case with cars like this, Australia usually pays 150-200% more then everyone else does for them. The GT is 305.55% more... and not even current anymore. And even our overpriced 300-500k cars are better anyway...

I wouldn't mind seeing a real breakdown of costs for making it RHD to see just how much markup there is with that $550,000 price.

FFS, you're twenty years old. Give it a rest for a while.

Hopefully, one day when your old enough to realise, (if this ever happens) there’s a lot more to owning one of these cars than just comparing it to what Motor or Wheels put down as a top speed for others in its class.

I have to agree with Steffo on this one. Part of the reason i liked the GT on it's release was the fact it could beat cars worth double it's price, sort of like the working mans super car, and a Ford !

Putting such a high price on it now is simply to make a large profit and goes against what the car stands for.
Lower spec and higher price than the competition takes the GT from being the being the underdog to plain bad value for money.

I don't disagree that the car isn't cheap compared to these, but how much will any of these be worth in a year or two. They'll be lucky to be worth much more than half, as there will be a newer, faster and/or better Porsche, Ferrari or whatever, and it may well be cheaper!

There won't be another Ford GT for a long time, and probably ever. This means their value is highly unlikely to drop much even in the short term, and will no doubt rise more compared to these other cars in the longer term. Just take a look at prices in the US where many 'used' GTs are currently going for close to $200,000.

But at the end of the day, if all we wanted was a car to get you from A to B, and were really worried about value for money, we'd all be driving Hyundais wouldn't we?

What a car absolutely love it, but how can the cost of conversion be justified, its like the Mustang you can buy one in the USA for less than $50,000 but when you buy one here dont expect much change from $200,000.
The AUS$ and US$ is at its best its probably ever been so how do these prices work out, surely it cant cost more to convert a car from left hand to right hand than what it does to actually buy the car in the first place, after all we are talking about a car that cost hundreds of thousands not several thousand.

Wrong. Motor went to Vegas and did a comparo between the GT and the Saleen S7.

The GT smashed it on everyfront except 150mph+ acceleration, and Dean Evans (journo) stated at the end of the article, that the GT was now his favorite vehicle ever.

The quote at the end of the article went along the lines of (not exact words)

"Not only is the GT America's greatest supercar, but it's also one of the best cars ever made. Worship it, we may never see it's like again"

That car replaced the 911 Turbo as Evans favorite car.

As I said Steffo, they still build the Euro exotics. The GT is, in my eyes, like the Maclaren F1, A car that will be praised for many years to come.

I own two of these Ford GT's, One is Candy Apple Red and the other is Black. Absolutely beautiful cars. I take real good care of them. Now, if i could only make them bigger than their 1:24 size . There were quite a few GT-40's at the AFD. Awesome cars.

The main reason cars like these cost so much here in Australia are all the taxes and government charges, many of which are tax-upon-tax.

I don't know exactly how they work (or even what they all are) but I think it goes something like this:

- Initial cost of car
- Freight, insurance etc.
- 'Normal' import duties & taxes
- Conversion cost
- Dealer profit
- Luxury Car Tax
- GST

As far as I know the luxury car tax, GST and the like has to be done on the value of the vehicle AFTER conversion, markup etc. I have no idea how much all these taxes and costs are, but you can see how easily they would all add up!
