Default Cold Air/Short Ram Intake

I'm looking at putting in a cold air intake, or a short ram intake into my 07 CL focus. Has anyone done this previously, that can give me any ideas and opinions on it?
Will it make a noticeable difference on performance and sound? What about fuel economy? Which brand is best?
And probably most importantly, how easy are they to install? Do you need to remove the current air box and replace it with the CAI filter?

Any help would be much appreciated.

personally i wouldnt put one in a N/A car, i did it with my focus, the sound was freakin amazing but they suck hot air which screws with your fuel usage, makes the car run lean, and if its an oiled filter you can over oil and stuff up your MAF. no real noticeable power increase, maybe more grunt off the mark.

But hey... the sound... SO COOL.

I'd only ever recommend the Pipercross Viper, or the BMC CDA system. Both avoid the heatsoak issue by being enclosed, and having a direct cold air feed. Pipercross don't do one for the Focus, but a BMC probably would (BMC's are not tailor made for particular vehicles, but use a range of adaptor pipes)

On my LR I got a 6-7% increase in power through fitting a Pipercross Viper

I have put an extendable pipe from the bottom of the stock airbox around to the front of radiator via a hole in left hand air dam, just like trenchtractor

is it neccesary to go out and buy a proper CAI to get around the heatsoak issue? or will a trenchtractor/20focus05/blackls style home job do the same trick to avoid the heatsoak?

ps. what is heatsoak exactly? im assuming its hot air heating the filter and therefore feeding hot air into the intake? am i close?

right on the money.
first off i just whacked a k&n pod on a 90' elbow to see how it went, it was not an increase over the whole rev range it was a bit lumpy. and it would have been sucking heaps of hot air.
next time i opened the bonnet i moved the pod to the back of the fog light and plumbed it with 3" stainless.
the extra volume between the pod and the throttle body gave it alot better response with sudden WOT and the cooler air made an increase across the rev range.
it would still be sucking a bit of hot air but ill get creative next time im bored at wo.rk

yeah ive currently got a pod sitting in the std airbox with the lid off, and no lower airbox or inner wheel well (will make a thread on why later :() so im assuming the heatsoak is pretty bad atm..

in fact im almost certain the pod made the car slower if anything. off to bunnings for the extendable pipe now
