1984 Ford Telstar Radio Question?

Hullo. A mate gave us a 1984 Telstar.

We've got it on the road and registered now.

There's no radio or ciggie lighter in it. My local wrecker says the radios are hard to come by, and if I buy a radio or cd player it won't fit.

So I thought I would make a faceplate out of plywood, paint it the same colour as the dash and install it. Then install a regular radio or cd player that I'd get from Kmart in it.

Any reasons why this might not work if there are any please? We don't have much money to waste.

It's not important if it's a cd player or plain old radio.

And swanee, if you're there, let's see if you can guess who I am

the model went from 83 to 1987 and is the same clone as the mazda 626 of the same years

maybe ebay or a sizeable ford or mazda wreckers will have one to suit

ours was AM/FM radio cassette

that motor will run on unleaded one in 2 tanks wiith that leaded suppliment

Thanks Dirty Hands The guy who gave us the car told us to just run it on Premium fuel.

I'll get some additive tomorrow then when I go to town.

We contacted some wreckers and they didn't have any radios. So we might try a cheapie from kmart and make a mount for it.

I tried to run our 2 litre auto on straight unleaded without the supliment

a manual gearbox may do better

I had to retard the timing and worked out I was using even more fuel

doubt if E 10 is suitable

too bad about the radio

I've replaced two 84 Telstar radios with modern CD players no problem. The Plastic fascia plate in one of them had to have the hole filed back a bit to fit, but otherwise was fine. You might find you have to fiddle and bend stuff a little bit, but as I said, I've done two, and I'm not a pro! Both were Pioneer CD/Radios.
