Hi,
I just thought I would see if anyone on this forum knows how to modify the AU transmission using resistors. A gentleman was going to help me, but I think he has been waylaid. I have10 x 5 watt 33 ohm resistors (I think I need three) and I believe they are meant to go somewhere on the wiring for the trans. I just dont know where. I looked at the mod on the AU falcon site, but it uses different resistors. I have to drive to Sydney on Sunday and back on Monday I just want to give the trans an easier time. Can anyone help me??? I think there are some circuit / wiring diagrams uploaded by Russel somewhere on this website.

33 Ohm 5 watt are no good mate.
theres lots of different combinations you could try but not 33 ohm unless you parallel a few which will get you close to the correct resitance and power rating. You need 10 watt or two 5 watt resitsors in parallel for a start. You should get a SPDT switch 10 amp 12v to turn on and off. Find Pin 81 on your ecu (take it out) and trace this wire back in the loom under the glove box and cut it. Connect the ecu side to the centre of your switch. Also connect the centre to a 5.6 Ohm 10 watt resistor (or two 10 ohm 5 watters in parallel). Connect the other side of the resistor to the transmission side of the pin 81 wire and also to the off contact of you switch. Now splice into pin 71 and run a wire to the on contact of your switch with an 18 Ohm 10 watt resistor in series ( here you could use your two 33 ohm 5 watters in parallel which are close enough). Good Luck. It does all work but you may want to experiment with the values or build an adjustable one like useless has posted up in AUfalcon.com |

The mod is meant to assist the trans in dealing with more power and positive manifold pressure.
Thanks for the tips. EA Turbo Ghia was suggesting the mod using the 5 watt 33 ohm resistors. I have been trying to PM him but his PM box is showing as full. Is it possible he is using a different mod? Has anyone heard of such a mod? I think Dansedgli also did this mod? anyone??? Or am I better of just doing the mod as described above by jonbays??? Roy |

Can anyone tell me if there is an adjustable shift kit that i can buy ready to install and then just give it to a auto electrician to fit.
I have read the article by Useless and as easy and well explained as it is i just dont trust myself to go messing around with the ecu. I did read somewhere awhile back that you can buy a kit with an adjustable knob that you can adjust from a soft change to a hard change that will chirp the wheels if so desired. Thanks in advance Gary |

Give me 2 seconds and Ill post the wiring diagram. This mod is more suited to cars with more power than the other shift kit everyone else has.
It is very harsh but stops all slipping. I tried the other kits you guys mentioned and it would still slip bad on gearchanges when on boost.

Here is the one I used and it was great. Chirped 3rd Ea turbo ghia posted in on the old forums a year or so ago.
Im not sure if the au uses the same wiring as my EB though.

its just a type of switch, ask your local dicksmith/jaycar and they get one for you. Double pole double throw I think.

Dont use that on the AU .The resistances a re different on the AU
pin 81 on au ecu

Its a different type of shift kit to yours Useless. This one bypasses the S5 solonoid allowing the trans to run higher line pressure than if the S5 was electronically adjusted.

My one increases line pressure on s5 solenoid as if the solenoid was adjusted too.?
By passing s5 went to limp home.

This one bypasses the S5 completely.
My trans was fine with the above kit and so are many other E series. Not sure on the AU though. At least its reversable if it doesnt work.

The shift kit I posted can just be turned off if you dont like it. It will definatley improve your shift if it is now slipping under boost on gearchanges.
I had mine on for over 6months on a 300,000+ trans running 200rwkw and 10psi without a trans problem. I wasnt even running a trans cooler even though I should have been.
