sticky tyres

I have an xw and i run a 15 x 8.5 rim with a 265x50x15 tyre , i runa 50 series to stop scraping as i run a std 9 inch. I was thinking a micky tompson but i would like to keep the same size tyre , whats out there. thanks

265/50-15's MT ET Street Radials. Or even something like a Hankook or Kelly with that Silica BS! They are some sticky tires those silica ones.

i take it you want to be able to drive to the track on them?

if so then yeh M/T's streets is what i use and just heat them up good and away you go

if not driving there and your on a trailer look for a full slick for more grip but watch your drive line

i had a look at the m\t website and i found 26x10.00x15 in either sportsman or S\R's . i am guessing the S/R,s are softer and are more for circuit and sportsman's are more straight line tyres.

i dont beleive sportsman range are DOT approved are they? meaning there fine for a car on a trailer but not street use is this correct?

no DOT tyre is legal on the street in AUS that is the US street legal tyre..

i have had many tickets over the years for running M/T DOT street tyres

yes the sportman are D.O.T but the sportsman s/r are radials don't seem to be D.O.T tyres so they might be the go. 265x50x15 ssem to be only avaliable in yokies , has anyone tryed these ?

I've go them on mine when not at the strip. Yoki 352's. They've been around for years and look great and are quite a durable street tyre....but for drag racing you'll spin the crappers out of them compared to the MT's.

As best as I tried with my last mild engine, I couldn't get a 60ft lower than 2.2 with the Yokies. That's with 4.11's and a toploader......just too much gearing.

I run the M/T ET Street Radials, pretty sure they are legal in Aust.

You will not need to run the same size tyre that you run on the street because they have that much more bite, plus it will cost you less.

For a set of 235/60-15 street radials it will set you back $530-. Go the M/T's nothing else compares! :evil3:

They arent legal in au,
I and others I know of have been defected for running them,they have no speed or load rating so will never be legal here.
The stickiest 100% legal tyre I have ever used is the toyo RA-1 or R888 tarmac rally/circuit tyre..

Im with nugget378. Ive had Toyo proxes RA-1's and there awsome. Definately the best street legal tyre for grip. Cheaper than the bridgstone race spec tyres and warm up faster. The toyo's I had seemed to wear ok aswell.

Thanks for that info nugget378, i was under the impression that they are "street legal"! That just might save me from the same fate you have suffered.
Any idea what sizes the above mentioned treads come in? And being a cicuit tyre they are probably quite stiff in the way of deflection?
