I think that's what it might called - the black felt thingie that covers what's in the book and lifts up when you open the hatch.
Be warned - the little plastic things that hold the lid strings onto the hatch are VERY cheap and nasty. One popped out yesterday and cannot be put back as the three tiny plastic prongs that hold it are broken. Another problem with the hatch door - it rained yesterday morning and later, after it stopped, I opened the hatch door and water poured into the boot at a point about 6 inches above the large rubber grommet on the sides. After six weeks the annoyances are growing! |

Water in the hatch is a common issue, Ford have solved the issue in the 2008.5 release of the car. Water gets in the groove between the bottom on the glass and the rear deck lid, they have now put a rubber strip in the new mondeo's to stop this from happening, there is currently no plan to retrofit this to existing versions for the time being....

As soon as the new cars are shipped here, or if anyone here notices the rubber strip below the bottom of the glass on the hatch, let me know, then i will see if i can get a ford part number for it and see if it can be retro fitted or if i can find a product that will do the job out there, there has got to be something, even a thin bit of black rubber hose fitted in there with both ends plugged will solve the issue pretty much

Looks like we are all the test subjects for the Mondeo, only because we bought them early. While there are a couple of little things that needs to be addressed, I am still over the moon with the car and look forward to driving it every day. For me though, I came from a 95 Falcon, so everything is 10x better than the falcon even with the little annoyances.
So I am still a happy man. Although, I did expect some teething issues and as long as they fix them, it doesn't bother me.

Talking about annoyances. While polishing the car I find scratches on the roof where it looks as if the mechanics left their tools while fitting the carry bars. :
The dealer to his credit said he will look at them when I'm in for the 3k check.

I used the tank water. We have both - town water & 23500 litre tank.

Those rubber ends in scribbly's post are the same as mine and are not the fixed version, vut from his pic you can see gap between the glass and the boot and that's what channels the water around and down to the side of the hatch... if Ford manage to fix this, you'll let us all know; right? ;)

There are reports of European dealers retrofitting the rubber strip under warranty. So it should happen here eventually.
