Exclamation Need Help With Fuel Filter AU II Ghia I6

hey guys and gals, stuck with a bit of a dilemma here... I am trying to a change my fuel filter on my AU II Ghia I6 and can't seem to get the nuts on both ends off, I have tried wd40 and a bit of elbow grease but so far nothing. There are two nuts on both ends, one is large and one is small, if somebody could hint which one to yank that would be great, The pic is below. Also in the packet there is 4 "0" rings two are small brass ones and two are larger rubber ones, which order do they fit onto the end : cheers!

The smaller nut on the pipe is the one that turns. The bigger one is fixed to the filter itself and is just there to stop the filter from turning when undoing the smaller one.

A good trick is to put a spanner on each at a small angle apart (say 10 -20 degrees) and then put both your hands around both spanners and squeeze together. A bit hard to explain in words.

Dont know what the washers/o rings are for. Just see what comes off the old one.

thanks for your help mate, ended up getting it off, although the previous time it was changed they bent the hoses so it didn't come back together so well lol.. its leaking left right and centre so decided to take it into my mates workshop in the morning to get it looked at, is it safe to drive about 10 clicks with the leak? cheers and thanks for your help!

I would not recommend it champ,tighten the fittings in the same way as Torxteer has explained,if you have to...... use thread tape on the fittings to get to you mates workshop.

Out of curiosity did you release the fuel pressure before you undid the nuts?

i got so sick of fords design of the fuel filter that i cut off both of the nuts and fitted a rubber fuel hose about 15 cm long for each line and slipped them on to a commodore fuel filter and tightened them up with some clamps. worked a treat and it is so easy to change fuel filters now.

Using crummydoor bits, cutting up Fords. I can see why you were blacklisted! LOL!

In all seriousness, that's not a bad idea. Thankfully mine wont need changing for a while. Please post a pic of your setup.

My fuel filter leaked the same after installing, the rubber washers they supply with the filter were rubbish, cut down 2 fibre washers instead, problem solved.
