Talking Registering a car from an Auction

Hey all,

I was wondering if someone could help me out with some info.
I recently bought a '88 EA GHIA in perfect condition from Pickles Damaged vehicle auction for $600.

Now the only damage on the vehicle was a broken Drivers side talilight which i replaced with a spare one.

Now Do i need a VIV check? There is nothing about the car being a Insurance Writeoff or Stat rightoff in the paper work I got when I purchased the car.

just says down the bottom under the car description
" SOLD, No REG - Repairable "
" Vendor ABN number - ########### "

Thanks guys as Im not sure if i need to get it done

If the vehicle was put on the Vic Roads database as a write off then you will need a VIV. No the person who notified Vic Roads can not remove it for you, alot of people try this.

The VIV checks the vehicle to make sure it mechanically sound and safe. You will still need to get a RWC too.

In QLd you need to get a WOVI.
Written Off Vehicle Inspection.
There is only one place in Brisbane to get it done, they have engineers that climb all over the car to make sur it is safe.
You need to take all your invoices etc with you to the inspection
After you have a WOVI clearance form then you can redgo is as per usual.

your car is fine. just fix it and get a RWC and continue as normal.
cars OVER 15 years old from todays date DONT require VIVs or any form of write off.

as far as im aware, due to the age factor, just head on down and get a roadworthy and she is right to go - too easy

however, will pay to confirm with vic roads first.

From VicRoads site:

Quote:
When a vehicle recorded as a repairable write-off is more than 15 years old, it only requires a Certificate of Roadworthiness for registration. It is exempt from the requirement to obtain a Vehicle Identity Validation (VIV) Certificate.

88 Ghia. Brings back fond memories. My old man had one as a company car and was by far one of the best cars he ever owned.

The EA brings out jeers from the peanut gallery. I owned an 88 S Pack and I'd probably join them for a moment. But that EA Ghia was one sweet car.

If it was $600 and all it had was a busted tail light, I'd say you got yourself a bargain there.

I sold a perfect condition EA Ghia for $650 with rego. Couldn't sell it. So for $600 + auction fees, it's not too bad I guess.

I doubt you'd need a VIV anyway. Just get it rwc/rego and you'll be fine. You can always call Vic Roads to check though (using the VIN #).

How?
All you did was post the Vicroads number, was it worth the thread mining?
