On the way home from my mrs' place, i began to smell a really distinct smell. It smelt like burning oil. I thought it was the car in front of me, so after about 30 seconds, i got out from behind this car.
I could still smell the burning oil Hmmmmmmmmmmm....... I thought, it can't be me.. I made it to about 3 mins away from home My oil light came on SHITE! It is me I had better take it slow the rest of the way! Got 2 corners away from my house As i turned the corner, i heard a ticking noise I thought, must be some ricer car The ticking noise was following me SHITE! I made it down my driveway, ticking noise was pretty damn LOUD! Called the NRMA, they came out The switch which regulates the oil pressure had failed! Oil was absolutely ****ing out through it! He said my car was about 1 or 2 minutes away from blowing up So $41 later, my car now has a replacement switch and a good 4L of oil As Marvin Gaye said... "Lucky, Lucky me" The NRMA guy was unreal. Diagnosed the problem, then took me to the local repco to get the replacement parts and fitted it all for me. Far beyond what i was expecting! The switch itself, the cause of the problem was $8.60!

3 mins away from home and your oil light came on ... and you kept driving it ... and you got all the way home ... yep, you sure ARE a lucky fugger. Goes to prove you don't have to be smart to be lucky. Sounds a bit harsh eh? WELL IF THE RED LIGHT COMES ON IT MEANS STOP. It doesn't mean keep driving until you get home. You were most likely only a few seconds away from a very expensive repair bill. As it is you've probably frigged your rings at the very least - just watch for heavy oil usage from now on. Go buy yourself a lottery ticket. Actually, probably won't help you 'cos I reckon you've already used up your quota of luck for quite a while. LOL.

Yeah, i know.
It was pretty stupid, LoL I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to cars I wasn't 100% sure what that red light actually meant, i knew it was something to do with the oil, but i didnt know exactly what. I know from now on what i'll be doing if anything happens, LoL... RED MEANS BAD! :togo: Will watch for oil usage, cheers.

Heh, mine went not long ago.. Got home and noticed a massive oil puddle underneath the car. $9 later (plus a couple of tools) it was fixed.

i am sorry to say, you are not lucky, but what you did was bloody stupid!
let alone a red light in my face, the ticking noise then would have made any normal driver switch engine off there and then. now you gotta live with the consequences (reduced engine life, increased wear of bearings, oil pump, etc etc). that little escapade could have very well taken years of your engine life.

Yeah not real smart but you've learnt your lesson now.
EvilCheif - I've got a couple of constant red lights on my dash. I just know what they are and why they are on.

youthink thats stupid, i drove around for ages with a crazy loud ticking noise coming from my engine. i thought it was the headers because i tightened the bolts and the noise went away for a day then came back. anyway best part of 2 litres of oil later and the ticking was gone. :

Lucky for now maybe, but I wouldn't count on those bearings lasting as long as they should!
