Default Din pocket

What the hell is the trick to putting this in? i noticed the protrusion at the rear of the pocket and i assume this is to go into the hole on the support beam at the back of the radio hole. But when this is done it is tilted back too far? it isn't meant to sit on top of the bar, in the dip is it?

The extrusion (point) on the back of the pocket has to go into this hole (red circle)

Once this is done, is will ususally leave a gap inbetween the pocket and the stereo, as the pocket is rounded shape, and the stereo is flat.
I haven't got a pick of the gap, because i made a metal suround to cover it up. The pic below gives you idea of what the gap will look like. If the stereo is as far back as it can go, it leaves a far sized gap.

Cheers

No offence to you superroo, but if aye you has a series two or three he doesn't have that black frame work (well mine doesn't anyway) but has a little plate that comes up with a little hole in the middle and a cut-out in the top, which the pocket sits on, i think thats where mine is sitting.

Your right NC, just found that he has a Series 3, so ignore my post.

Cheers

[EDIT]

Here's a series 2/3 dash. So if someone can point out for him where it goes that'd help

Looks like it's in the same spot, just above the two bottom screws/bolts in the middle of that bar, just not 100% sure

i got the headunit installed, but unless there is a way to mount the pocket in a more solid way, i'm gonna have to do a ronwest and screw the headunit cage into the side of the dash

EDIT: would appear im nick left the comp signed in as him... (this is cam.giles)

Aerpro do one specifically for Series 3 which is already black - Ive got one in the ute and in mine, it just snaps in and clicks there. I have no framework or anything even close to what you guys have shown in the pic - mine is literally just a big hole.

I'll second that! I found the DIN pocket easier than the headunit to install!

yeah i butchered up my din slot, i may have to get the au3 din pocket and start over... the trouble will be getting the frame off the plastic surround as i attached it to that with a few drops of "tough as nails" :::

well i may be able to prevent from drilling into the dash. i looked into this post by bodes-sh in this topic http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11214583 and realised my hu came with one of those rubber spikes. i've just pulled the hu out, screwed this is and lo and behold, i fits snuggly into the hole in the back of the dash near the top. now just have to get the pocket to stay in place, thinking glue and then it'll sit tight.

Half your luck. Alpine headunit I bought only comes with the cage to hold it, so I have to work out a way of attaching that cage to the dash. I found the Aerpro pocket to be about 2mm out of line with the dash but Ive worked out how to fix it, should look ok when done. I'm yet to see/read about an install for an AU that hasnt involved some modification to the original parts!

Try putting aftermarket audio gear into a BA/BF, that's even more fun with the whole integrated rubbish.

I'll pull mine apart and get some pics for you guys in the next day or two, and show you mine. I haven't had to modify any original components.

Aust... you should be able to un-screw the rubber plug out of the back of the factory headunit and screw it into the Alpine one. If not the unit will tell you what size bolt will fit usually M3 or M4, just get on of those and pull the rubber off the factory unit, it usually pulls off.
