Condensation

I've been getting bad condensation on the inside of most windows of the XR lately. The windscreen is worst and is sometimes actually wet down the bottom at the dash and the rear window isn't much better. Strangely the side windows are nowhere near as bad, sometimes not even fogged up even though the other two are completely. The other thing is it takes a really long time to get rid of it even with the A/C on, it just doesn't seem to want to go away and it leaves a slight film on the windscreen. I've noticed it happens more after rain and I do park it on a slope but I always park it tail down to avoid the water coming in from the boot.

What do you guys think?

Is the interior of the car even slightly damp? Maybe it needs a really really good dry out.

You may have already considered it but Heater core or coolant leak inside car, heater pipes etc ? Maybe worth pressure testing cooling system.
Hence film on screen (Coolant residue) and taking a long time to clear even with AC on.. Would explain front screen but as for the rear ???

That is something I have considered but it's the rear screen that really gets me. I haven't ever found any wet patches and there are no visible marks on any of the carpets. The thing with the rear screen too is that I can't see how that could be caused by a rain water leak as I always park it tail down on the slope, so no pooling. It happened badly today when it was parked all day at the train station, perfectly flat level ground.

Just for the record I don't park in the station car park *shudders*, I park on the side of a main street up here. Nice and safe and no door ding marks.

does your car have a cat pis# smell? if so you could have wet or even damp carpets and this will have this effect also if it has been raining where you are and you get into the car wet you, end up transferring the dampness to the seats and also the carpet.

do as Peuty says.and give it a really good dry out, open all the doors/or windows and boot if you can, and leave it in the sun all day. if you can get it in a garage or somewhere safe for the weekend that's even better.

as for the film on the windscreen all cars end up with that, they need to be cleaned regularly

I find it ironic that a person with the username "whiskers" is mentioning cat p*ss

Anyway back to it, there is no wet smell in it although there is a wet smell coming through the vents after it has been raining and I turn the fan on. Maybe a blocked drain outlet? Something to pull apart on the weekend I think.

if you are thinking about a blocked drain, before you start pulling stuff apart check that the drain from the A/C isn't blocked, there was a thread somewhere on here not so long ago on where it is and how to see if it is blocked

Now that makes sense to me, it does seem to be worse after using the A/C...a lot worse.

Could this be my first "easy fix"?

Something else that will slow the buildup coming back is that I find it's better to not leave the selector switch for the vents on the windscreen option. If you know you're going to stop in a few kays change it to the floor vents, so that when you pull up and stop there's no warm/damp air left in the windscreen vents. Even if you're still going to be travelling, I find it's best to only use the windscreen vents when necessary, not leaving them selected with no fan on. It seems best leaving the fan on at least one so that air keeps moving through right until you stop.

Anyway, seems to work for me...

There is a product you can buy that stops inside mirrors from fogging up(like mirrors in bathrooms) unsure of the name of it but this may help.Think amway may have a product.

I have been getting it too Russ, i only get it after rain because it is cooler inside on the of the car then the outside (even after sitting in the sun all day). Only the windscreen gets 'wet' the rear window only gets fogged. I also have a sunvisor on the front aswell which doesnt help

Interesting that so many have the same trouble with the AU. My old EL was never anywhere near as bad.

after that massive amount of rain we had recently i had what felt like a green house effect inside the car after a day in the sun(even after consecutive days after the rainy day)

its as tho the weather seals dont "seal" enough ...

ill give this "dry out" a go and see where it gets me

and in the morning especially now its colder. i get dew on my windscreen and even after using the wipers takes a LONG time to clear (keeps comming back)...

i think it may just be cold vs hot etc

My XR6 can take all the rain in the world and only the boot will leak, however if there is damp air overnight I'm promised a patch on the drivers carpet back towards the lip prior to the seat. Smells like cat pi##, as described above. The annoying part is it's only a small area that's damp, and I have no idea what is causing it. Getting my hand under the carpet it appears the orange foam (?) is damp, however the layer of plastic (?) underneath that is bone dry. The dampness doesn't really bother me, it's more the smell.
