Who would have thought the Toyota would beat home the Ford in that race...!

Falcon was only the 5speeder though, the 6speed would be bang on the Aurion times.

If you tell these people that a 4 cyl Camry will use as much juice as a 6 cyl Falcon they just laugh at you. It's the same as the tools that buy the Holden Barina, Nobody bought a Daewoo Kalos, then Holden stuck a Barina badge on it, and look it's in the top 20 sales.

At the end of the day Perception wins and truth comes in a distant second.
Agreed.

The average person who doesnt have any idea about cars when buying a car thinks Toyota and thinks it must be good then.

I'd rather be in my larger Ghia with the extra room and comfort, and still get below 10 l/100km average, on 91 RON fuel.

Yes, but I'm no dawdler. There are techniques.

And those who have theirs on gas are even better off.

Yep, Can't beat a Falcon on Gas. Cheaper to run than most 4 cylinders and with the added bonus of the power, comfort, and space of a large sedan.

I owned a Camry, certainly didn't live up to its repuatation. Particularly when an electrical fault caused the auto off headlights switch to fail and the central locking to engage on its own accord. CV's were a bi-annual change, after 120,000k it started smoking like a drunk frenchman and fuel ecconomy was woeful in peak hour traffic (well actually my driving in peak hour traffic is woeful, but the distinct lack of low down power only makes it worse).

And don't even get me started on Toyota Finance.

I have also owned a Hilux but as it stands now Toyota probably isn't ever going to see me again.

It still seems to be the case.

Why do they sell? That is a very good question.

I have a friend (yes, a friend), he had a Lexen for a couple of years. (from new)
Had nothing but issue after issue. (think VP V6 Cr*po-dore)

In the time he owned it, he did nothing about it, just kept going back to the dealer, getting shafted and told that in was 'standard' etc.
We told him it wasn't good enough, he seemed happy to take it up the tail-pipe.

He got rid of it, and bought a late 1998 EL. He had only 1 tenth of the issues he had with the Lexen, yet blasted the h*ll out of the car, brand and Dealer. His words to me were, he expects better from a local manufacturer.

The EL was sold for a VT GenIII.... witht he same result.

I honestly think people bash Ford and H*lden for no other reason than the fact they are the two major local brands.

Guilty Here. :( I bought an 02 Wagon, Auto.... have done 100,000km in it... averaged 10.3 litres per 100km and lucky for me, bought the 6 year warranty, which i believe has saved me $3000+ on claims. It handles like a pig compared to my Focus... first corner i almost slide off the seat and tip over until i remember which car im in.... even with good tyres, and will spin the inside tyre when taking off at a corner... wet(lots) or dry (little)...

I am hanging in hope they bring the Mondeo Wagon out here before next April... as its getting traded then....

i gotta say tho the au11 falcon was a bit average for power but decent economy and handling, the toyotas do seem to go for a while and i know of a couple of 96 to 04 toyotas of various breeds and they cop a decent hammering and still survive but for how much longer i dont know. personally i think the old datsuns were better than some of these new cars, the 180b fuel economy was around 4.5L/100 and the skyline was around 9-10L/100, rego now hurts on the skyline. :( the ba onwards have been great though plenty of power and plenty of comfort heaps of upgrade options and a well constructed aussie car. overall: the best car choice i ever made.. (should have waited for the fg though)

My stepmother's Camry just lunched it's alternator. $536 later...

Who said Toyotas were bulletproof and cheap to maintain?
