Hi all,
I just helped to convince my sister to buy a new black Fiesta Zetec. Lovely little car but it's only 3 days in and we are noticing problems with the audio system. Basically 2 things: 1) The volume level is fading in and out! If we set it to the desired volume, it'll get louder and louder then get softer again. Not a drastic change but it's definitely fading the volume up and down on CD's as well as the radio. 2) When we start the car, turn the key the speakers make a loud popping noise. PAM! Like that. Are any of you having these problems too? Looks like we have to take it back to the dealer!!! Any help would be appreciated. |

1) Are you sure the radio is not compensating for ambient noise, or does it do it just sitting there being very quiet.
2) The first problem may be related to this problem with a stray earth by the sounds of it.

The Fiesta has a Automatic Volume Control to compensate for engine and road noise. To find this function, click M repeatedly till AVC OFF (or in your case; AVC # + ) appears, then select a number or turn it off. The higher the number i.e. AVC 3+ the greater the compensation. Hope that helps!
BUT this should only occur when driving, so this could be the "fading" you are talking about! Hope your sister enjoys the fiesta! Happy motoring!

No, the fading out is the Auto distortion compensation (CLIP). When you turn up the audio, should it distort, the stereo corrects the volume and turns it down to a point where there is no distortion. To turn it off you must press and hold M until the options come up, and then scroll to CLIP and select Off. That should fix your problem.

Could also be Track Compression (COMP), where "quieter music is boosted and louder music is suppressed to minimise repeated volume adjustments". Same thing... Press M to find it

LOL! Cars are getting so complex, they're definitely heading towards driving themselves huh? Thanks for your help guys this sounds absolutely SPOT ON.
She's loving the car. Her last car was an MR2 Spyder (a sports car) and so she's finding the Fiesta's seating position very high, she explained it as "I feel like I'm sitting on an encyclopedia!" lol! You can understand it as the seating position in the MR2 is so low and race like. But she'll get used to it for sure. All the best!

All she has to do is lower the seat adjustment, and then do the same with the backrest... then she will be lying low
