Default Engine 'thump' on heavy changes?

Been noticing for a while, if you shift hard (especially 1st-2nd) and get off the clutch fast, there's a NASTY thump from the front end, is this a weak engine mount? Bloody bad noise...

I think it is called "axle tramp".....
When I drive my partners CL, and give it a hammering.
I get a bit from first - second.

Same if I just dump it in the XR5. (standing start no traction control) :evil3:

Please correct me if i'm wrong.. :

Nope, not tramp (that happens too ) Hopefully decent springs and shocks'll sort out the tramp. It's like the engine's rocking back and hitting metal. Nasty sound...Maybe the mounts are too soft?

The rear mount is really soft, a lot of Mazda3 guys (identical engine bays) replace theirs with a corksport mount or use a locktite product to fill in their stock mount.

But first check that the exhaust shield isnt hitting the exhaust.

Ahah, that's the info I was chasing. Thanks man, I'll look into that, it gets driven pretty hard and i'll be doing some motorkhana days and sprints with it...bangy noise makes me back off, and that's never good

it's because the revs don't fall fast enough for fast changes. the clutch has to slow the engine speed down enough to engage drive again to the wheels. that's the "thump" on heavy changes. even more noticeable on start-up (still on choke)

I did notice that the revs drop very slowly...is it built into the ECU and the electric throttle, or just a heavy flywheel?

most drive by wire cars are slow in dropping the revs.

Also if you want to change quicker consider a lightened flywheel. That though has some negative tradeoffs in terms of speed - depending on how/where you'll be driving.

It'd make it easier to stall, but that'd be about the only negative tradeoff... That being said, I don't plan to mess with this one too much...I like my warranty If it comes to it I might just get a heavier engine mount.
