Rang Vicroads today to organize new plates and rego for an interstate purchase. After booking I enquired about number plate options for the vechile.
• $28.50 for new issue plates • $98.00 to put on personlaised plates I’ve had on hold from a previous vechile Then I asked if the original issue plates when the car was purchased new could be reissued. She checked to see if it was available and it was. I could have an exact copy of the original issued plates for the modest fee of…. $385 Now I know the plates have to be remanufactured, but last time I had a weathered pair reissued they charged me a realistic fee of $60 for the pair. I was leaning towards having the original plates back on the car but not with those fees. |

Still nowhere near what NSW charges. Another Gov dept becoming like a private business.

$28.50 sounds about right for the new issue plates here and same for the $60 reissue of Personalised plates here. My FPV plates were $52.80 delivered. However, the way we do our personalised plates in QLD is completely different to how you guys do yours down in Vic.

Get on the QLD personalised plates website and price up some plates, you'd be paying in the thousands.

I had personal plates on a previous AU XR6, when i sold it it was cheaper to get new plates issued then it was to put the original plates back on which I still had! Crazy world we live in.

What I was referring to as the ripoff factor was the amount to reissue standard plates, not custom

I agree with Feathers, not only are your motoring costs much cheaper in Vic, but in most areas you have decent roads to drive on as well. At least you can see where some of your expenses are going whereas up here (especially on the South Coast) the roads are absolute shite.

I knew what you were talking about Hords, I had original issue plates that I stored at home after I put my custom plates on an old LTD I owned, when I sold the car I was going to put the original issue back on the car, but the price in comparison to standard issue to put them on the car flawed me. I put standard issue on the car for 20 odd bucks and gave the original issue to the new owner so if he wanted them on the car he could pay for it.
Rego and comp 3rd party is much cheaper in Victoria than in some other states doesn't mean we should be happy about paying it, are the NSW home owners happy to pay stamp duty because its cheaper than Victoria? |
