Default Focus TDCI aftermarket parts

Anyone know of any sites which sell aftermarket parts for the focus tdci ?

Ive found this site: http://www.focussport.com/index.htm

but im not sure what products actually can be used on this model focus.. i dont see tdci mentioned anywhere..
In Europe do they call the TDCI another name?

Any info on this would be appreciated!

Focussport is US, and all the US models ran on the Focus1 chassis and body up until the 2008 model, so all their stuff is only useful to those with pre-05 focus. I wanted a turbo kit :(

On that note, i don't think they export many diesel cars to the US, especially small ones. I think a car that uses 10L/100km is enough of a shock for the US market, they don't need to know that cars can use 5.

Firstly, what aftermarket goodies are you actually after - performance or asthetic stuff?

Asthetic stuff - a lot of people here will mention european-parts.net
Performance - depends on what you need.

Btw, do a search on the forums. This is a on-going popular topic. I am sure you will find what you're looking for.

both really, on european-parts.net what is the model for the tdci ?

I ordered my tdci today should be here next week.. cant wait.. just wanting to know what sort of mods are out there.. but its pretty hard to know when the australians use a different name to the europeans etc.

when i was at the dealer i asked for just small things like the handbrake cover, sports gear knob and pedals.. i was told that i couldnt get the the gear knob because the sports one doesnt have the mechanism to engage reverse (the lift)..
after looking at european-parts i found this:

which looks exactly the same.. was the dealer lieing to me? has anyone else got the sports gear knob on the tdci 6speed ?

im pretty sure ford dont make a sports knob for the tdci.

this is the section you need for your car. it covers all of the LS/LT models...

some parts obviously wont fit.....some xr5 stuff like bodykits and grilles and stuff.

if you are unsure about what will and wont fit just ask someone on here.

Does it explain anywhere how it works? i'm guessing that it interferes with the signal from the ECU and either increases the fuel pressure, or increases the duration of the injectors. Either way, it should make more power, but it'd need to be done right, otherwise it'd drive strange, use more fuel and possibly stutter.

Hi Loris,

The system connects to your Fuel pressure sensor on the common fuel rail on the top of your engine. it works by taking the fueling information from the ECU and making slight adjustments to it to release the additional power the engine is capable of producing. By increasing the engine power output your engine becomes more fuel efficient. typically increasing your MPG by 3-4.
Attached is an image of the TDCI common fuel rail and the connector at the front, your connector may be on the left hand side instead but its easily located with ease.

yeah, that'd be my bet as well. I don't doubt that it'd make the extra power, but I'm curious about the extra fuel efficiency. There's two ways it could work, the first is to bend the signal all the time, hence higher fuel pressure, more power, more response, etc, but a higher idle speed and a bunch of other issues, or it could simply allow more 'headroom', so full throttle effectivly takes you further. That'd be the obvious solution, but it won't change fuel economy, unless you drive at full throttle everywhere, then it'd get worse.

I'd love to look inside...I almost think it'd just be a variable resistor or potentiometer...either way, if it works, it works...How is it adjustable though? Does it come with software and a cable?

That said...i'd just buy one and see if it works, pretty hard to blow a diesel up...

And if it doesn't work, you can send it back...

Hi Loris,

The system in question is fully adjustable via a small screw on the rear of the unit which increases or decreases the amount of fuel pressure entering the injectors. the system is very easy to adjust and complete instructions are provided. This system cannot be connected to a PC.

That looks very much like a serial port on the module...I wonder what it's for? I'm guessing the screw adjusts a trimpot or something. Either ways, I'd get one, seems like a great idea, and if it fails, send it back. If you can spare the coin, get before and after dyno runs...

i would definately factor the cost of a dyno run into it. would be pointless if you couldnt see what the ACTUAL gains were instead of just going by how the car feels.

I don't know about this sort of thing. Wouldn't you be best off to buy a Code:Red ECU tuner (similar to a dreamscience)? It's a well known brand, you can do a whole lot more with it, and although it costs an extra few bob, it'd probably be worth it in the long run...
But as I said, I don't know a whole bunch about this stuff.

p.s. If you can, get a copy of the current (July 2008) FastFord magazine (UK). It has a 6 page article on tuning the Ford TDCI engines

I'm interested to see if the "Better fuel economy" part actually works in practice. I have no doubt the engine has plenty of power left in it though, however the system would have to be easily switchable for when a service is needed...
