I've been given a 6x4 box trailer for free. The guy had it sitting for 10
years in his back yard. Anyway, it's structurally sound, and only needs a couple of tyres, and some new wiring. The existing plug has been torn off, and the existing lights are broken. My AU has a 12 pin flat socket on it, so I've bought a 7 pin flat plug (does fit a 12 pin socket, the first 7 pins are the lights, the rest are for additional features my trailer doesn't have!), and I've bought some 7 core cable (10m). My question is this. When I wire it up, do I run the cable down 1 side to the 1st set of lights, then across to the 2nd set of lights, or do I run 2 sets of wires. 1 down each side to each set of lights? I think what I mean is do I wire them up in series, or in... not series.? Crash Lander

When i wired my trailer i cable tied the loom to the centre support that ran length ways as who ever built it made provision for it. I then cut into the loom and joined and soldered the tail & brake lights and ran the indicator wire to the right side.
I then ran the tail & brake wires as well as the indicator to the left side. |

basically run it down one side, then across at the back, not in series as such, just with 2 wires running from each wire (if that makes sense) at the back, one for the left side, one for the right side

Like the other guys , run it down the driver (Right) side of the trailer then to the left side , run another length only connecting the yellow (left ind) , Red, (brake) , Brown (tail) in the middle (depending on the light ) DEFINATELY SOLDER AND INSULATE WELL.
if you can on all joins another trick is use the right sized heatshrink tube over the join/joins at the back of the trailer (driver side). pm me if you need further info |
