LHD 2 RHD Exemption Age, Anyone Really Know

Greetings folks,
New member here so be gentle. Does anyone actually know for sure and not by way of urban myth, rumour, bar talk, overheard conversation or reading the threads in here and forming personal average opinion, how old a vehicle must be when coming from USA to Oz, before it is exempt from LHD TO RHD conversion.
When I Google the various key words, I get lots of different stuff. Most of the car transport companies have links to various state departments to research rego needs and rules but I can never find it in official form
Is there anyone in here that can point me to a link that puts the regs up in writing in official form please.
We are researching this for someone migrating from USA to QLD.
Nice site. Cars in here are a little too new for me. Pre 1980's (or even earlier) my range of likes. Ones you don't need to be a nuclear physicist to work on.

from what i've heard it only pre 1970 car's which are LHD can be imported and driven legally.

we just did an '88 corvette and got it licenced lhd here in Perth.

It's a state by state thing.
In Vic it's 30 yrs or 25 if under registered under a club permit scheme. Also must display "LEFT HAND DRIVE" in 75mm letters on rear.

Welcome to the forums Stockwhip. The laws vary from state to state, but for Queensland a car must be 30 years old to register with LHD. Should leave quite a bit open for you!

Most states in OZ have the 30 year old rule (Which sucks!) but in WA, you can register & drive a LHD car on the road as long as it's over 15 years old.
If the LHD vehicle is under 15yo, you need to convert it to RHD just like the other states.

In the Northern Territory, there's no restrictions on LHD vehicles but they still have to meet some basic ADR requirements that apply to when the vehicle was built. (or before 1989 as is the case with other places in OZ)

NZ has some cool LHD import laws. They don't need to be converted to RHD if under 20yo. BUT, you can import & register a LHD car under 20yo. as long as you have owned it overseas for a minimum of 90 days, but you're not allowed to sell the vehicle for 5 years and this process can only be done by the individual once every 5 years.

There certainly are some cool LHD Fords & other cars overseas.

Definatly 30 years in Queensland and you have to change headlights,seatbelts and fit child restraint anchor points in rear (really stupid,but that's the gov't for you)(obviously if more than a 2 seater) as amber rear indicators,that's a grey area.
