Does anyone know how many cars you can buy and sell legally before you have to get a dealers licence?

AFAIK in Vic you can sell 4 cars a year before you need a traders license.
also i believe you can buy as many as you wish its just the selling bit they are interested in. |

4 in NSW I believe, I imagine you need to contact the MTA.
http://www.mtansw.com.au/ http://www.mtawa.com.au/ http://www.mtaq.com.au/ http://www.motor.net.au/MTA%20SA/ http://www.mtaact.com.au/ Can't find Victoria one, nor is it linked to the Vic Roads website...

dont know much about obtaining a dealers license but i dont think its worth the hassle.
to have a dealers license you would probably need to be a business. that means all fees that are associated with setting up and running a business. BAS every 3 months, dealing with warranty work which would come out of your pocket (if the car is over 3k you must provide a minimum 3 month warranty) plus many other things that i cant think of. go down to a small car yard and have a chat to the owner to see what needs to be done and spent to get a dealers license. |
