yeah, thats a weird thread title..
Thought this would be the best place for this question.. Do you guys have any suggestions for something i can put on my lower rear quarters to either prevent rubber sticking to them, or to make it easier to clean the rubber off, after burnouts? After my last trip to heathcote, it took a fair bit of effort to get the heavily caked on rubber off the car.. I'm entering my first burnout comp this weekend and if there's a way to prevent whats left of my tyres glueing to the 1/4's i'm all ears  I think i read somewhere spraying CRC/WD40 on the 1/4s helps.. another suggestion is applying clear contact (like you put on school books) over the panel, but i was thinking the hot rubber mixed with the contact would make a gooey mess.. any ideas? |

A friend used to use WD40. He reckons it worked as good as anything else he's tried. I'd wash it off and polish the qtr panel as soon as I could.

Ive been told at the track to rub vaseline over the lower quarters,I havent tried it yet but will next time I go out,spending 3 or 4 hours cleaning off rubber isnt fun..

i don't bother doing anything, i just hit the 1/4's with a gerni and then use wd-40 to remove whats left, takes me all of 15min to clean the 1/4s this way..
however wd-40 or vaseline applied first does work well, I'm just afraid of scratches from dirt sticking into the vaseline or wd-40 during the day.. |

Your keen using the gerni Lee,if it gets under a small chip it'll lift a fair chunk of the paint,happened to me on my old XA,wont be doing that again..

yea it crosses my mind, but i figure if the paint comes off it needed painting again anyway
I actually wash the whole car with a gerni, i never use a sponge and soap  :maybe secretly i'm hoping for a new paint job |

have used vaseline on the gaurds and it works prob as well as anything, for a bit more you could lay glad wrap or something like that over the vas as well

Tyre shine or silicone spray and then pressure wash off at the car wash on the way home easy....

There was a product called Invisishield, not sure if it is still around. thay Used to use it on 4x4s, you apply it with a brush (clear thin film) and peel it off when your finished.

I asked the same question on here a while ago. I was using bug and tar remover to get it off but it was a major pain.
I think the general consensus is to use a lubricant, hmm.. maybe KY might be the go, like it works well stopping other rubber from sticking. :P

I've used "Pure & Simple" cooking spray. Sprayed it all over the guards and in the guards and the rubber washed off with soapy water nice and easily.

As fairmont1998 said cooking spray or Mr Sheen is another. I also use prepsol and alot of old rags as the rubber just melts and spreads a little.

Monty, provided the paint is good the cheap and nasty sililcon/tyre shine from super cheap is the go. Give the quarters a good polish first the drown them in tyre shine as others have said. The only down fall is that iff the paint is crazed or not sealed the silicon will seap through the paint and give you hell when its respray time!

I just saw this product a few months back......muti-purpose cleaner/polish. The guy reckons it will get the rubber off no problem. I've still got some on from 12 months ago, so I might give it a trial run in a few weeks. Costs a bit more than good old vas though.
