after getting my CL 07 (zetec rims) service they told me i needed 2 new tyres. i was told this was most likely because i corner hard with low pressure... i always put my tyres to 33psi, i thought this was the right pressure and when i got it back from the service the tyres were up at 37psi and my economy has improved by about 0.5 - 1L per 100km is this a safe pressure and what is everyone else doing for Psi?

Thats ok...get yourself a tyre gauge if you have not got one.Most of the servo's are incorrect anyway..I run 40psi on my 19'' ...I ran 36psi when I had my 17 on the TE50..

Heavy car opinion - 40 min for dead flat wear... 37 seems pretty right for a little car.

I run 39 at the front and 37 at the back now.
Seems to work well, got Bridgestone RE001's on there, and little wear showing after 20,000km...!  Mine are the 16" Zetec rims though |

I usually keep the fronts at around 39 and the rear 37, the recommendations are always too low I reckon.

on the sidewall is a recommendation about adequate inflation pressure. Generally around 35 psi is best between ride quality and handling and general wear.... start going harder it becomes a more harder ride, go too low and it affectes handling due to sidewall flex and the casing moving alot more.... just remember to keep an eye on them regularly and make sure all tyres are even in pressure for best efficiency, look at your tyre wear aswell when you get on the ground, if its wearing on the middle chances are its a bit too much pressure (overinflated) and if its wearing on the edges and even onto the edge of the tread pattern then you are most likely running too low a pressure (underinflated) people forget how much tyres affect the car.... they are a crucial part of the cars operation and if you look after them then you will see long duty time out of them...

39 front and 37 rear on my 17" Zetec. I've got 50,000km on my original goodyears and they're wearing evenly. (rotated at 15k, 30k & 45k)

I ran 41PSI all round, which is maximum pressure on the tyre placard. You don't want the middle of the tyre caving in under heavy braking.

my factory 17's are 36 (front) and 41 (rear) as per the manufacturer's recommendations for full load. I've run 47,000kms on the clock & still have 50% life remaining in them :-)
It's true... the factory tyres do last if you take good care of them :-) |
