Default Anyone with dynamatting experience??

During my 6 weeks hols, i wanna dynamat my boot and perhaps the drivers and passenger side doors.

I currently have a bulk pack of dynamat, figure it should be enough.

I remember seeing a dynamat walk thru on here? or fordmods? but cant find it anymore..

Just wondering if anyone has used dynamat in their boot and anything specifically i should look at doing? I mean its pretty bad at the moment, but it seems like it is just like that cuz the boot lid is pretty hollow! I mean, if i lay on the boot and pump it up, it doesnt shake anywhere near as bad (however i am yet to find a volunteer for this), so i have decided to seek the alternative of dynamat

When i turn my fully tabouli system up a quarter of the way, with the fade fully to the fronts, the boot shakes :( I dont like that sound!

I wanna pump it so i can no longer be ashamed when i croooooz with the boyzzzz down George St on Friday nights

Anywaiz, yeah.. I suppose the question I am asking, is there anything in particular i should do to ensure a good sounding setup?

Cheers

Just make sure you give the panel a good clean with prep wash before applying dynamat .I used 3 bulk packs in my ef fairmont in front doors and boot and i can still make the boot rattle 3000 wrms but does make a difference .

There's really nothing to it, as mentioned above clean the panels first.

If you really want a tutorial, there's a good one over on www.mobileelectronics.com.au

Speaking of soundproofing (this might be a leeetle off topic).....

Does dynamat also stop road/exhaust noise ciming through to the cabin? Or is there a better product for stopping this type of noise? The new exhaust I put on is a little droney for the bub and wife to put up with, but sounds just how I like it from outside the car (hence not wanting to put another resonator on the system).

I was thinking of pulling all the interior out to put dynamat or a similar soundproofing stuff down, but would this help get rid of some drone?

to stop road noise get an underlay type material.. Jaycar sell it in a roll

the dynamat does stop some noise but not as much as a wool/foam based material
just place it above the areas where the exhaust runs especially at the rear and near mufflers

doesnt take long to do the dynamatting but i would do the bootlid first as it wont look as good as when u have done it for a little while, u cant see it with the carpet over it so it doesnt really matter if u just whack it on there. as long as u start from one side and work your way across rather than try to do the entire sheet at once.just cut it down to make it easier to work with is what im saying.lol

I woudnt use dynamat for exhaust niose to expensive i would either use underlay as blackers10 mention .
Another way would be to paint body deadener (bitumen type thick substance) on underneath of car you can get from autobahn or supercheap but its a messy smelly job and your car will stink like body deadener for a while .

Cool, thanks Blackers and Dub - the wool fibre stuff sounds like the go - nice and easy to hide under the existing carpet.

Sounds like I've got another project for the holidays!!

Dynamat = Blood...............lol

Doesnt matter how careful you are but if your doing a large area your going to cut your hands at some stage...........

Also the little roller thingy they sell for applying it is very useful and I would recommend on using a heat gun to make it easier to get in those trick corners................... note using a heat gun also makes it very hot so use gloves :(

Sunny day is enough heat to make it malleable.

Roller is essential, as it needs to be stuck down good or it looses effectiveness. And may come unstuck.

had the option of dyna mat of flashtac.....exactly the same stuff. but can be bought at a roofing/hardware store for MUCH less.
Easy to apply...use some box handlers gloves and you won't have any heat or blood problems.

flashtac is cheaper.. but it isnt quite as heavy apparently (Read a comparo on car audio australia site ages ago)
for the same amount of weight you need at least 2 layers of flashtac or somthing..
mind you.. i have 1 layer of flashtac on my boot lid and its reduced rattles almost entirly

It's absolutely NOT the same stuff.

Flashtac uses bitumen and foil. Beware as the bitumen looses it's stick, and may melt on a hot enough day (e.g. in a black car, out in the sun etc.)

Dynamat uses a sythetic boron impregnated mass material (it's their secret I guess), with the aluminium foil backing. It won't melt, and doesn't loose it's stick.

Also as mentioned above it is heavier without being much thicker. So to get the same results you need to use MORE flashtac, resulting in it being MORE EXPENSIVE.

There is a reason why Dynamat is the highest regarded deadener in the world.

I've used both, so take my experience or don't.

Oh the awards I've won this year (for car sound quality competition)...

- NSW Champion - Expert Class
- ACT Champion - Expert Class
- South Coast Nats "Best SQ Overall"

my flashtac hides behind the carpet cover on the boot lid.. so has no issues.. been on there for 3 years...

and i dont think flashtac will go anywhere if its stuck ontop of a horizontal surface

for the budget builder.. flashtac works
if you have cash to blow go the dynamat
