Hey guys
Working on replacing the pads and rotors and need a little help. I've - taken off the right front wheel - removed the retaining clip from the outside pad - removed the two bolts holding the caliper to the strut - and..... nothing. The caliper will happily move along the rotor but the blasted thing won't come off. I also can't get enough give to get the worn pad out... Am I missing something? Can anyone point me to a step by step guide on doing this? I've searched the forums and the UKFN, but have not found anything related to a Mk6. I feel like a dingbat for getting stuck on something that should be super simple but hey, I have a to have a flaw somewhere, right? Thanks guys Ali

I have an xr4 but the pad change is pretty easy on that. Not sure if the other fiesta set up is similar BUT
remove spring Take the plastic coverscrews off the 2 bolts that hold the caliper and it should slide off. The pads are easy to pop out give it a good spray with brake cleaner you may need a special caliper spreader to get enough room to fit the new pads in slide caliper back on refit spring ( this is the hardest and most frustrating part! The trick i learned was to get a pair of multigrips to grab and really push one part of the spring in. Then with a pair of pliers, grab the end of the spring that goes into the locating hole and try to line it up. Plenty of bad language came out of my mouth when doing it, but have done it again since and can occasionally fluke it 1st go try this u tube vid. It is not for a fiesta but may help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pUNvMr6iMY |

Is your handbrake on? could be causing extra pressure in the lines. Also is there a lip on the rotor?
Also did you remove the bolts that attach the bracket to the car or the bolts that attach the caliper to the bracket (they are allen key bolts on a Focus).

Guys
thanks for the replies and for the help - I figured out the problem... I removed the bolts holding the whole thing to the strut, but didn't realise there were bolts for the calipers themselves. I'm going to do the brakes this afternoon... Cheers Ali |

Muahaha
Muahahahahahaa Wow. Greentstuff on RDA slotted rotors... what a difference from standard / worn brakes! After 125K km and still on the original pads / discs it was time to change them over. There was still life left in the original set - maybe another 10K km or so, but I had the time and inclination to do it so last weekend it was changed across. I've been pretty gentle so far to let everything bed in, but the difference is massive. The bite and consistency is just fantastic, especially the way the car pulls up. Once I'm happy with the bed in, I'll go for a run where there are some nice twisties bits. Aim to change the brake fuild to a higher grade over the next couple of weeks too. When I do that, I'll post a couple of pics too. Thanks to everyone for help and advice. Cheers Ali. |
