Default News on AIR - Virginia Raceway Drag Strip Re Opening

Ok guys... here's the news all you South Australians have been waiting for...

Target Opening Date for Legal Off Street Drags at Virginia Raceway

is Saturday 13th December 2008

Please note this will be weather dependant.. heavy machinery can not finish the relaying of the track until it is fully dried out, but all measures are being taken to have the venue ready for the date above.

The Legal Off Street Drags will be run fortnightly on the alternate weekend to the Calder Park meets, full Calendar dates to follow soon.

Also: Brand new track lighting and timing boards are on order and are planned for installation by end January 2009

Thanks for keeping us updated SLY. May I ask where you got your info from? Hopefully those dates are set in concrete.

I have a meeting with Brian Nokes the CEO of the Australian Motorsport Club about once a month, we throw a few ideas back and forth, I give him some feedback from the forums etc and also ask some of the questions I see people asking on the forums, he fills me in on what they are up to and tries to answer my questions best he can, I then post his replys up on the various forums.

Both venues will be having an open day for everyone to come along and see what works have been done, Calder's will be early September and Adelaide's early December is the weather is kind.

They have a heap of drag racing events planned for 2009, it should be an interesting year for the Legal Off Street Drag Racing people out there.

I think they have realised, that you cant lay bitumen on a swamp, when the water table keep's rising. I reckon if you were to walk through the tunnel under the track, you would be ankle, to knee deep in water

About time Mallala raceway was made into a Motorsport hub it has a track & burn-out pad needs a Drag strip & Speedway track it is away from the city so no noise complaints when the new Bucklands Park is built everyone at Virginia will complain about the noise of the Top Fuels & funny Cars like they do with air force base

Talking Mallala

suppose it all comes down to do the locals want it or not where ever it is.
I think Mallala is a good option but old Clem hasnt got as much folding as BOB!
(although he could probably get something done quicker!) :
