been a local its not bad. a hell of alot closer than anything else. Theres a pub and restaurant up the road called Santa Fa. There are free buses into the city and back etc from Hidden Valley, so any of the hotels in the city would be suitable, but that been said the Tourist Park is good.

i use to fly up from brisbane ,arrive walk out the front of darwin airport jump on the 20 seater tourist bus (i think $7) and they would drop you off at any tourist accommodation in the city only . i stayed at the backpackers places in mitchell street (globetrotters bar & lodge or melaleuca backpackers resort). close to all food joints , atm machines , shops , night club , pubs and the bus stop is at the end of the darwin city mall , they run free bus service on the hour to and from the track each day. after the race finish watch the local coverband playing up on the hill dont forget to catch the last free bus back to the city then go to the v8's after partys in mitchell street pubs. wake up the next day and catch a cab (i think $20) back to the airport and fly home. last time i went was 2006 so dont quote me on bus , cab cost now. i only done it this way so there was no need for car hire, drink more beer and be close to the party life in the city and it work out to be a cheap weekend away for me.
