Thumbs up Al Loveday XW Project

Yep....we know Al is not really a computer guy. And not really mechanicly minded.....but has a great passion for Fords, suppose that all that matters. Al purchased a XW Futura with a 221 ci 6 cylinder last year, by what i heard he stole it off her, but its been sitting around not doing much, but during the last month or so we have started to attack the old girl and try and bring her back to life. So here is some pics on what we have done so far.

THE BEAST

THE ENGINE BAY

Plenum in great condition

THE INTERIOR

THE ENGINE
Al wants to keep the girl in pretty much original condition with not to many changes. The motor has only done 46,000klms, but very glad that i talked him into fully stripping the engine down as it was only going to do about another 10klms if he was lucky. The engine had been sitting that long that the timming chain had siezed up and was rusted to the cam gear, the crank had rust marks on all the crank pins, and the gudgens had locked up. So it was a total strip down and send all the parts over to John at Engine World, and once again done a great job !!! He replaced all the valves in the head with stainless jobs and also replaced the guides so Al can run on unleaded. John then linished the crank, decked the block, and honed out the bores. He gave the block, head, sump, pistons and rods a chemical bath overnight and while he was at it, John spray painted the block, head, and sump, and then knocked in new welsh plugs. Then the rest is up to us. Heres som pics.

We decided to put in a stage 1 camshaft to add a little spice, as we will be also running extractors, but besides that, the rest of the engine and components are compleatly stock.

Spent some of my lunch time today with the sand blaster at work, quickly knocked up the sandwich plate, dust cover, timming cover, and fan. A quick clean up and a coat of etch primer tonight, paint on the weekend, should dress up great.

Hey Thunderoo mate I cant believe what I am seeing in these pics.... I saw the title of the thread and thought it couldnt be possible.

I am an old friend of the Lovedays, I use to work with Diane at Grace in Sydney. I have not been upto cresent Head for a while now but I must get back there soon.

When you see them say a big Gday from Stretch for me.

And I cant believe he is going to try and build up a car.....

Thanks buddy

No problems with the pics, it will be going to a professional painter to do. We have 2 in mind, but one of them is very slow. So most likely it will be going to Dean Biddle in Kempsey.

No worries Stretch, ill let him know. He always drops into my work for a coffee or 2 always asking what we are going to do next to the girl ect ect. He wants it on the road by November this year....alot of work. But we will see, he doesnt know alot about cars...but he just learnt how to assemble a bottom end of the 221 (with close watching eyes) and he done ok....after that he has the bug....and that bug costs you alot of money !!!!!

At least you're (he's?) not going with the trend of chucking a bent 8 in it. Congrats on the job, it looks like it'll turn out well

It is his car and he has made all the big decisions, he has no mechanical knowledge at all but wants to get his hands dirty and restore a car, im just there to show him what to do and how to do it.
