What tyre pressure should I run in my street tyres when I go the track?

Depends on what tyres you have, on a street tyre you would be safe with 36 psi as a base pressure do a couple of laps then come in and check pressure again while hot staying close to or under 40 psi this is for circuit racing

take cheap pump with ya and drop to 20psi max. ideal about 15 imo

They are not great tyres (very hard compound) 235/60/15 hankook dynamic :

Everyone I've talked to has kept their street tyres at normal pressures...ie with 18's 38psi or so will be fine

Some people have tried lower psi's into the low 20's but it slows down mph and the harder sidewalls of street tyres wont expand out enough as per drag tyres to get the grip without losing roll

If your going to run street tyers 25 is good if your wheel spinning drop them a bit more. wouldn't go lower than 20 though.

If they are a hard compound as u say do a nice burn out get them hot and sticky.

I reckon you're right legend, the low pressures could be preventing these powerful cars getting higher speeds although they get a decent launch. I was with Chris and Wade last Wednesday night the WSID. Chris just had no grip where Wade did have. Wade got a great time in the end due to a good launch, his mph was down though. His tyre pressures were very low, if this was the reason for his lowish mph it would have also hindered his ET to a point. When I was karting we would run low pressures but was told that if they were too low it would prevent a higher speed at the end of the straight, thus more time was spent reaching that point. I suppose a little test would be to try and push you car yourself with different pressures, come to a compromise between pressure and effort to push. If you're finding it hard to push you car I'm thinking your engine would suffer as well somewhere in the equation.

I think it also depends how likely your car is to loose traction. With my stock EL XR8 its not worth lowering tyre pressures because I don't have enough power to have traction problems.

Exactly, your car will roll nicely at high speed.

Definately have high pressures in the front too, the less rolling resistance the better

Surely the type of tyre would have a large bearing on the most appropriate pressure, along with power output etc.

I was recommended 18psi in 235/60/14's, and maybe lower! Seemed low to me, around 25 is what I would've expected as a good starting point. If I run my normal wheels (17's) on the strip, i would just use normal pressure!
