Hi Guys,
I am new to the forum, and new to Fords. So please make allowances for my dumb question. Having checked under the bonnet of my recenty aquired 2001 Falcon AUII Wagon I have figured the 6 Cylinder 4.0 Litre engine uses a timing chain rather than a belt. I have never owned a car with a timing chain, so I was wondering does this part need to be repalced at any particular mileage like belts do. Do they ever fail. Also thought I noticed that this engine has a lamda sensor just on the exhaust down pipe, is this correct? Cheers Dom |

That would be an oxygen sensor, makes your car run right by reading certain gas levels in your exhaust gases.
I havent heard of a timing chain going, Ive never even heard of one being changed.

timing chain no, but the timing guides do wear out. i had mien changed at 100.000km as i rebuild the the top end at the same time, but they do last a bit longer than that anyway

timing changes dont need to be replaced ever, unless u menaged to snap one.. good luck
timing Belts how ever are ment to be done every 100,000 but since au's dont use them no need to worry |

Thanks for the replies guys,
Do mine is just coming upto 100,000 Km's. Do I need to consider getting the guides replaced? If so is it an easy job to do yourself or does it require special tooling, to lock the cam in place for example? Cheers Dom |
