I had Nascar 06 I think it was. I got bored pretty quickly. I just can't drive around in a circle all day. Do people really get into this game? Because I've heard that there are so many Nascar games out there!

Im really sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I just gotta know something. Why do people like Nascar racing so much? I don't mean to offend at all, I'm genuinely interested. Am I missing something? How can you watch or play cars that go around in circles hundreds of times?

It's just something that is entirely different to our brands of motorsport. I agree that the ovals can be EXTREMELY tedious but good hard racing is to be had on the limited "road courses" during the season. Check on Youtube for Marcos' drive during the CUP race @ Watkins Glen '08 to see what I mean.

I think the golden age of NASCAR racing died out a long time ago with restrictions on the output of the engine etc. If you look at most of the lap records on the tracks they were set during the 80s/90s when they had more powah.

It's a matter of taste.

As a simulator, I used to love NASCAR. It's more than just going round in circles, you just have to learn the nuances of the sport to understand them. Fuel strategies, tyre wear, setups, drafting, safties all come into play. It's like a game of redneck chess.

If you take a look at oval racing (they don't just race on ovals mind you) then you could boil it down to the most purest of racing where the track is largely removed from the equation and it comes down to your cars prep, your strategy but most of all your driving ability in a formula based car.
