I guess we all know we can't tint our screens.
I'm sick of burning my hands on the wheel and seeing the dah melt in the QLD sun. Can anyone see any reason why we can't apply a clear film to our screens ? Read the specs on this 3M film http://multimedia.mmm.com/mws/mediaw...zz&K2rjvZZZZ8- Quote:

Take a look at Renaults windscreen. They are tinted a little purple.

I have always been curious why there is a legal (huh?) tint for cars. I mean, how is it detremental to anything? Adding to the road toll? It's tint and it serves a purpose, it really shouldn't matter how dark windows are.

you might need to look up those standards that they have listed on the qld transport site to make sure of legalities.
as far as the tint goes it reads like a good product. 3M has always been at the forfront of technolegy when it comes to new window tint films. just befor i got out of the industry 3 years ago 3M released a new clear film for flat glass but it was very expencive (over 5 times the price of their regular high performance films). maybe this is the same film ??? one problem you might have is the ability to form the film to curve of the windscreen. to tint rear screens and side windows in a lot of later cars the film is heat molded to suit the curve of the glass. specialised auto tint films are designed to enable this molding process.flat glass films made for buildings are not required to fit curved glass and often cannot be molded to shape without creasing and distortion.

I'll give 3M a call tomorrow and see if it can be applied to a curved surface.
I can't think of any reason why not. It'll also help when driving in the mid day sun, cutting the heat blasting through the screen. I'll let you know how I get on. But, to clarify, I'm not talking about "tinting" the screen The film is totally clear but cuts out U.V and heat |

I like the sound of this stuff, I hate tinted windows as you can't see who's in the car :evil3:
I prefer windows clear, it just looks so much better especially with a lighter colored interior it's just made to show off. I rekn they'd have them at places like Tint Professor and some of the other bigger tint mobs but would likely be quite expensive in comparison to the regular tints.

If visibility is a problem, then we should legalise the tinting on peoples sunglasses. Im definate that the tint on sunnies is much darker then 35% tint. |

Have you ever actually driven a car before? : And last time I checked, you can remove sunnies when it starts to get a bit dark.

Sorry but its not legal. You cannot appy any film (clear or not) to the windscreen.

the sticky holden/ford banners used to be all the rage years ago across the top 5 inches of the windscreen , they stopped it for some reason.

While the spec's read very well with regards to performance, it might be good to note that Infra red energy (of which it stops a claimed 97%) is only about half of the solar energy that enters through your glass.
With regards legalities this practice of tinting font screens with very light films has been going on for many years. Back in 1990 I had the front screen of my XD Falcon done in a 65% Vlt film (very light). It was only when I went to the drive-in one night that I realised how much light it actually stopped as the movie screen was made dark as if it was a 'B' grade movie. As previously posted it is not legal to apply a film however light to any area sweep by the windscreen wipers or a maximum of 10% across the top of the screen. Unfortunately there are those who will tint your screen as dark as 35% here on the Gold Coast. This is a disaster waiting to happen as you cannot see clearly out of the screen on a clear night let alone a rainy night. Sooner or later someone will be seriously harmed by this practice so think first before you do something you may regret later. Big AL

Why don't manufacturers fit some sort of U.V resistant product in the glass itself thus 'automatically' removing harmful rays to the driver and the cars interior which would definately help keep the interior cooler thus requiring less use of air conditioning = Save fuel!!! After work on a hot day put your hand on the screen 10 minutes down the road and it will still be HOT!!!
