Default XR5 auto

Does any one know if ford are going to do an option on the XR5 with a auto
or the new fiesta zetec with the 1.6L/auto.
A new car for the wife and kids and something for me to drive on the weekends.

The rumour is that it's in the pipeline. It'll get the new 6 speed powershift dual clutch system (similar to VW's DSG) that has just been released in the LV Focus TDCI (due here any day now I suspect). Word is it's very good, but I'm not sure how long it'll be before it's added to the XR5.

Not sure about the Fiesta....

Yeah I've heard the same. I just hope the financial crisis doesn't stop any new options like the DSG XR5. 'cause if they sell Volvo (Ford that is), then this msy be the last XR5...

may not be entirely true.

The first focus ST (170 that is) had nothing to do with ovlov. Infact i've heard that there may possibly be a chance that they're going to retire the engine that is currently in the XR5, it is a pretty old engine actually. It came up in a conversation over on the xr5 forums a while ago, and even then, it was speculation.

Would be a shame tho, it's such a fantastic sounding engine.

And as for the gearbox. Meh, I'd pass. It would more than likely be an expensive option, and i much prefer a DIY box. Simply because it's more involving.

I enjoy driving. Every aspect of it, including using a clutch properly.

However if i was faced with the options of driving an auto, or a DSG, i'd pick the flappy paddle box. Provided it worked properly.

Driving a DSG is like having a manual with someone else guessing which gear you want. The VW DSG I drove was fine 99% of the time, but it picked a gear too low when I was accelerating around a tight corner. Would have been a good test of the stability control if the road had been wet...

I've driven the new gear box in the tdci and i was very impressed. I'm not so sure about the rumour of an auto xr5. in the uk you can get the 6speed auto in just about every model. except the st (xr5)

who knows what will happen once the focus is built here
