Howdy
I have a 6 month old bottle of oil that I bought brand new. It's been in the shed for that time and never used. Is it still ok? |

If it's never been opened then yes, it will be fine.

I work in the oil industry and can tell you it will be fine, sealed oil has a shelf life of about 5 years.

I use oil that was extracted from a 44gallon drum 3 years ago.

On the Exxon Mobil site they recommend 5 years shelf life as a maximum for engine oils including Mobil 1. Just as an aside when the Dutch military were recovering shot down WWII aircraft in the Zuider Zee (a large inland sea)
Shell requested oil samples from sealed propellor hubs and found it still met specification after 30 years of underwater immersion. With the increase in additive use by the oil manufacturers now I would be wary of anything too old! cheers Bill.

So if the bottle has only half the oil left but the lid has been closed would that be considered sealed or unsealed?
