Went out today to see Chris and Dave run.....bloody great times by both of them. I knew Chris ran a new PB when he was coming back around the return track with his fist pumping out the window.

Today was a LS1 meet. I got there expecting the place to be full but there was bugger all there. Would have been maybe 30 cars max and there were times when no one was running. Some of the LS1 guys were just doing laps. You could've had as many runds as you wanted out there today. Only problem was there is no time boards at AIR and there was no comentator calling out the times. There was a guy out there who has a VY SS that sounds like a door slammer.....he ran a 10 flat at 141 mph.

I think it was a manual but auto's with stalley's and diff gears and a good suspension setup have got in the 11.7's too I think. 12.4 is the best with stock stall converter

I wonder how these bosses will be doing given another year or 2 of R & D...the times are dropping quick
I don't understand how you can call a car unopened if you change the valve springs ????????????????????? extrodinary terms.......

FYI these are the rules they follow:

Hope I'm not infringing any AFF rules with the link above.

Yes I'm not sure either. They say valve springs are there for reliability but unopened should be 100% unopened....no internal bits touched, and proves how reliable and strong the donk is too

All this talk of 'Valve springs' and "unopened" leads me to the belief that the Boss V8's don't need their valve springs changed? Correct?

On another note, it's probably something we shouldn't really care about, i mean it's only valve springs right? all the turbo guys here have to change their valve springs

My deal on this is "UNOPENED" means using bolt on enhancements only ie: Exhaust, CAI, Underdrive Pulleys, Throttlebody spacer etc.

When you change valve springs that means the rocker covers have come off and the engine is OPENED......

the Boss 260 has very ordinary valve springs there sh!t, Chris showed me a set they took out of a customers car, very soft you can flex them i bit in your hand...
its a very big job to replace these springs on the quad cam engine..
.
the Boss 290 has much better valve springs, the xr6t guys have used these springs in there engines as well..

That may be very well the reason why the LS1 guys are saying valve springs are allowed in unopened classes. Maybe the stock ones are that crap they cant go past an extra 30-40kw's or so without one letting go after some spirited driving, or repeated drag runs. I guess it might be a form of insurance policy, change it before racing so one doesnt let go on the road....

Maybe the same might happen to us Boss owners too after some more power is extracted over time

This is exactly the reason, the stock spring give very varied result over 5000rpm after the car have seen the trip a time or 2, for motor safety & consistancy it is allowed in the "unopened" class,
