Hello All,
First some background info. About a month after getting my mk2 escort panel van the clutch started to get stuck to the floor during gear changes. I eventually replaced the clutch plate, thrust bearing and clutch. Upon removal i found that there where some fingers snapped on the clutch plate so i assumed that was the issue. After replacing the clutch the car drove fine for a while and then it started up again. After that i happened to have my other car running so i've since ignored the problem and the car has since been sitting in my front yard. Unfortunately for me, my current car needs some engine seals replaced so i need the escort up and running again. Apart from the clutch sticking to the floor issue i've always noticed that the clutch cable adjustment didn't look right. I finally got a chance to look at another escort close up (it was a mk1 4 door) and noticed that the adjustment on that particular car was almost the exact opposite of mine. i've attached a poorly drawn example of what i'm talking about. It's a pic of the adjustment end of the clutch cable. what would cause this? I am missing the sandwhich plate that goes between the bellhousing and the engine but thats all of 3mm thick so obviously not the cause of such a dramatic lack of adjustment. any help / ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Note: left side of pic is towards rear of car Last edited by mlaser; 20-05-2009 at 11:17 AM. Reason: edited pic so that its correct |

is the clutch fork bent??? very common on the escorts is for the clutch fork to split & bend - I have suffured the same problem before, I ran out of adjustment and the clutch felt dead
since that time i have wekded a 5mm rib to strenghten the fork did you install the block behind the top of the clutch fork in the bell housing?? start with the clutch fork first IMO |
