Cheers Candyman2. I am around 6 foot as well so that is great news! Looks like I will have to go visit the dealer when new stock comes in!

Pretty sure scuffs are standard with ours too, unless they mistakenly through them in..

Nah it's definatly part of the Zetec package to have the stainless scuff plates

See this link, they are the standard ones

http://www.ford.com.au/servlet/Conte...=1178856522333

Did anyone notice the Illuminated gear knob which was listed at $150 is now $190 :S

We thought about getting the iiluminated gear stick knob (dealer was doing it as part of the deal given we were the first ones to place an order for the Fiesta at the time)

After taking an LX for a night drive, we decided not to - too many damn lights as it is in the cabin !

The new Fiesta is starting to grow on me, actually. Damn, it looks great in black & the optional 17's fill those guards nicely. Hope you enjoy it (when your wife lets you drive it, that is!)

Just two questions for those in the know:

1) Does anyone know why you need to push the locking button twice on the key to get the indicators to flash twice? If you only push it once, the car locks, but doesn't flash the indicators. Wife wants to know (yes we had a look in the manual, but it wasn't all that clear)

2) Why is there a small petrol indicator (in a circle with a cross through it) on the illuminated dash display showing all the time. There is a separte petrol level indicator on the speedo dial so I am just curious what the other one is for.

Thanks in advance

The one showing on the illuminated dash display shows the range you can drive until the fuel tank is empty.

Regarding the indicators, my LR Focus Zetec used to flash the indicators on the second lock, to denote that the internal dead locking had occurred - 2 stage locking effectively. One press to lock the doors, a second press to deadlock them and flash the indicators. If it doesn't have deadlocking, I suspect it's a hangover of how the car's PCM is hardwired to work, even if deadlocking isn't fitted.

The Circle with a cross indicates Average Fuel Consumption.

Just checked the Ford website, the whole range gets double locking (deadlocking).

Guess that explains it!!

http://www.ford.com.au/servlet/Conte...=FOA&c=DFYPage

I remember a mate locking his keys in his LR Focus and deadlocking it. There was only one way in... window smashy. the RACV came and said it was one of 2 cars (at the time) that they couldn't crack. The opriginal German Focus and the Golf.

So what happens exactly when the car is "dead locked"?

Acts just the same as a deadlock on your house in many ways

Locks the outside and inside.

Also activates the alarm.

So, they can't break a window and open the door from the inside.

A big thank you guys for all your help with the answers. I'm still a little confused with how the circle with a cross over the tank indicator shows the average fuel consumption, but I'll have a better look at it tonight so I can work out the logic. Sounds like I have missed something.

Looks interesting Andrew, thanks for posting. To be honest I think I prefer how it comes from factory as the darker grey looks more sophisticated in my humble opinion. If I was to add anything, it would be a chrome surround around the front mouth like they do on the G6ET’s.

CDAA the chrome insert looks great I've seen it YouTube. I think its standard on the Zetec model in Europe.

Easy, Ford Australia are cheap. Surely it can't cost that much. If it comes out of the factory with it then sent across Europe then why not here.

Anyway how is the car going?

CDAA Aussie Zetecs would be a different spec and I dare say much more price competitive than a Fiesta in the UK where people will pay good money for them. They are specced by Ford australia for the local market, I'm sure there's all kinds of things that they do and don't choose to take to get it in at a price. I reckon it's insanely packed as it is for the price!

More bling would never go astray though

Thanks guys,
I figured it would be down to what spec Ford Australia negotiated with Ford Europe. As for the little black beasty, it's going extremely well and I am told it draws much attention. No major complaints to speak of, in fact now we have had more time to look over and drive it, I've been really impressed with how well it's been finished off. With the LS Focus Zetec I purchased for my wife three years ago, while good I always felt it was a little undercooked in terms of features, sportiness and trim for the money. This car is the complete opposite; we just keep finding new cool things about it.

On the more critical side, I personally find the voice recognition thing a bit of a gimmick. The time you have told it what radio station you want, you could have changed it by hand three times over. Now it’s got a few more km’s on board the engine performance as definitely improved, but it never going to set the world on fire. I also noticed that it had drum brakes on the rear which surprised me a little, but the brakes seem to feel good enough for what it is. You do also notice that the steering rack as been limited, but what distance you do still seems to do the trick.

Overall, we love it. I’m glad I purchased a panther black one and I’m glad I optioned the 17” wheels. Haven’t got sick of looking at it yet .

The voice recognition comes into it's own with the BT. Wouldn't be without it.

Also, you can use shortcuts for audio control.

I'm finding the finish a little rough after having it a while now - too many sharp edges on the trim and poorly fitted areas.

Some minor rattles developing.

Handling, engine and transimission is still working great though and that is the big win.

Well, well, well you have been busy.

It is just beautiful to see a man who goes out of his way to surprise his wife. You really are a truly lovely man.... :

I think Fiesty is gorgeous... and she will be dead easy to swing in and out of all those tight carparks at the shops.... I love the Mini for this reason... although the Utey has more rooms for my purchases!

Now if you could get some of that surprise instinct to rub off on Lynton... my wish at the moment would be for a BMW Z4 in that Mulberry colour.... See what you can do, ok... _2:

By the way a belated birthday wish to your wife

Hey Tori, your very kind (as usual )

Funny you mentioned the mini. I would have loved to get her a nice Cooper S, but I simply couldn't fit everything we needed to in it i.e. shopping, kids etc. Damn shame that, but Fiesty's gone down just as well by the looks of it.

I'll see what I can do about the Z4 with Lynton. Shouldn't be too hard after you have let him supercharge the Utey :Reverend: I could really see you in one of those. Both my wife and I are big BMW fans, although next time I would like to get her into one of their hot looking coupes.
