Thats some of the new rules that apply if you get your Ps after July 1st 2007, in 2008:

P1 drivers will only be able to carry one passenger aged 16-21 years. This means that P1 drivers will not be allowed to carry multiple passengers between 16 to 21 years of age.

Sucks ey? Couldn't you just buy a normal BA Falcon and then save up for a full turbo kit while you are on your Ps then have it fitted when you are off? Or is it way more complicated than that?
Those rules apply to NSW, not VIC.. or did they change them in the last coupla months and scrapped the better, power/weight ratio bans?

I've heard many people say that insurance will take your money but not make a process a claim if you have an accident but a mate wrote off his VU SS on his p's 18months ago and insurance paid out no worries.

Power/Weight and Capacity/Weight still applies if you got your license before July 2007.

If you got your license after July 2007 but before July 2008, then it's straight out no V8's, turbo's.

If you are getting your license after July 2008 then (obviously) you will be subject to the new restrictions.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Too much money to burn these days, generous parents or just hefty loans and years of debt.

I've seen two BA XR6 Turbos sell recently. Both manuals. One went for $13,500 and the other one went for $14,600. Both had 200,000kms.

I thought I was rather chop when I got my BA in early 2005, with the head turns etc. I was one of few p platers in a BA, but they're everywhere now. I was lucky though and bought it as a repairable write off (only had 10,000kms). Fixed it up all myself and had it for 3 years.

I still wonder how all these kids get these cars though.

you can get a decent BA XR6T for around 20k-25k even cheaper depending on its condition & K's, but its really not a massive amount for a young adult with a steady well paying job & not to many other commitments.
Granted there are alot of spoiled kids who are lucky enough & their perants have brought them a new car. but for alot of other young people they have to work hard & save. But for a young car enthusiast who is after the car they love, 25K is not an unachievable goal!

Yeh there was it wasnt just a no V8 rule it was based on power to weight ratio so you could still drive some v8's but not a GEN3 SS

I think you're living in a dream world.

The only way to get a car worth that amount is either through finance or their parents have put up the cash.

you could get a finance loan, but you could also save half & get a loan for half...

how many people buy a car straight cash anyway, unless its cheap...

i got alot of mates in trade type jobs, electricians, carpenters all in there early 20's earning 50K+ a year, why is it so hard to belive young people can make good money...

Because young people (myself included) are big spenders ;) Look at how much goes on grog, smokes, clubbing and other harmful things every weekend.

Very true, but not every body choses to get on the grog every weekend & go clubbing & blow all there pay on useless junk. some chose to work hard & save for a goal weather its a house or a car etc. & not every one relies on their parents for financial support...

In Victoria you cannot drive an XR6 Turbo on P Plates. Power to weight ratio too high for those P plate drivers who got their licenses before July 1st 2007 and those after are not allowed to drive Turbos (Unless TD)

I find it very irritating when people immediately assume that parents have shelled out or you've gotten a big loan you can't afford to pay off. I'm sure that is the case with some, but for me and the many others who work bloody hard, it's insulting. P platers with a good work ethic and determination do exist. : Like someone else said, I have many mates who are 19-22yo, and some make alot more than the average income, that's for sure.

Anyway, I don't see the point of a turbo right now. I like to keep my insurance void-free, and when I drive by the boys in blue I don't even give half a second to worrying about whether they'll pull me up, do me for being in a high powered vehicle, then go over the car and all it's mods and proceed to ream me. But when I turn 21, boy oh boy, that day...there will be some serious RWKW

Are you serious? If they were as tight as me and on the average wage they could buy a car of that amount outright after one year.

What happens if you had your Green P's since 2004.. but got disqualified in 2006 for 12months, and got your licence back in 2008?
Had licence for a few years before the new laws, lost licence, then got it back after the laws, Do the new laws apply?
Friend is in this scenario and is curious as he gets his licence back this friday and drives an SV8 VY.

Exactly - Falcon Coupe is correct in saying you need to read the fine print i.e. Duty of Disclosure. Yes they will happily give you insurance, when you crash ect. they will deny your claim as you are unlicensed for that vehicle class in Vic (i.e. turbo). Its exactly the same as someone without a bike license trying to insure a motorbike - they will take your money but when you stack they will check your license and no money will be forthcoming.

Because Dallas some people believe they can have what ever they want regardless of the laws.. some people think they know better, just like the p plater who killed his 2 passengers last night when he wasn't allowed to be carrying them....

Spot on mate. Ill admit that im one of 'those' that wants everything yesterday but iam smart enough to realise there is a line that i will not cross. Even though i wasnt restricted as to what car i could have when i was on my p plates i was smart enough to stay away from 'those' cars.
