Hi, I’ve attached 4 timeslips from my last visit to Willowbank. What I was wondering is from the speeds achieved (best being 103 mph) what would the car be capable of with a harder launch?
As it is daily driver I took it really easy off the line, just rolled it off and then floored it. The rear tyres were pretty shot as well so the grip wasn’t there at the top end of first gear. The car is 6spd manual, stock except CAPA 2.5” S/S catback exhaust and a BMC Filter with dual entry. Looking at the cars as I was up against I was thinking a 13 second pass would be possible with a harder launch especially as I now have new rear tyres. |

With a trap speed of 103 a 13 is possible, you just need to get the launch right.

13 second easy.. the trick is the launch. These are big cars to get off the line but you should be able to get a 2.0 60 footer without too many clutches to show for it !

Just looking at the slips and the BF XR8 did a 14.0 @ 102 with a 2.1. A regular up at WIllowbank is "tweeked", he seems to be a BOSS manual guru. He can assist with some launch tips. Just don't get too excited out of the hole, with street tyres and manual gear box 2500rpm should have you covered. See that 60ft tumble.

Heres what can be done with a BA1 XR8 ... only mods are a CAI. This was pre edit availability on SP3 or 9000s, cant remember. The point being is getting off the line is the critical part.

Its all in the 60 ft. :
any tenth you can shave off generally saves a few at the end of the strip. Also a very shallow stage also helps with the ET too...

Yep your 60ft is where you can make immediate improvements. On street tyres without being brutal you should be able to get that down to 2.0 flat pretty easily. 1500-2000 rpm with a gradual (over the full 60ft) clutch release will get that. Just dont dump the clutch.
.5 off your 60ft will see about .6-7 off your et, and you will be in the mid to high thirteens. With 103mph i think you could end up around 13.4 with a 1.8 60ft, but you will need to warm those tyres with a bit of a burnout and an extra 1000rpm, right up near the wheelspin point to get that. Keep practising!!
