Default AC's XC Engine swap over

Well as most know, Barney is in need of a heart transplant.
Unfortunately done the big end.

So after a little hunting around, I found a donor car.
Was right on my doorstep pretty much.
From a high school mate who lives up the road, a 78 Falcon 500(see below).
Exactly the same mechanically, excepting its a floor shift, mine a column shift.
I'll be making mine into a floor shift anyway, no more column
And i ended up selling the body off on ebay, almost for what i bought it for.

Ending up with this, almost a free engine and box.

The donor motor is ready for a clean, then paint.
Went down today, pulled off all the stuff i wont need, spark leads, hoses an stuff.
Easier to replace it all with new.
Turns out ill need a new water pump and thermostat housing as they have a bit of corrosion, all easily replaced.

More pics to come once clean and ready for paint.

Cool, Thanks.

I guess when it comes to it, all i really got to do is cut a hole in the floor for the shifter.
Link it all up and bobs ya uncle...

I'll be at it again today, now that im off for a few days.
Clean up and prep for paint, maybe a little polishing of the chrome rockers.
Maybe get a few more chrome bits for some bling :

Well its been a while since ive posted about this.

The car has been sitting a while...
I've been in no real rush to complete, mainly because ive got no where to park the big yella at the moment.
So my mechanic mate has been good enough to let it stay at the workshop.

But we'll have it ready for the AFD.

As you can see the new engine is in.
Tail shaft and all the big stuff bolted up.

Got a small hurdle with the exhaust.
My extractors have big flanges on it, the ones of the donor dont.
So we are getting flanges made to suit.
I wanted to go with these other extractors because the are 4-2-1's.
The 4-1's hang really low and often hit everything.
Even my selector shaft in the column is effected by it.

The next after that is to mount the gas converter on the back of the inlet manifold.
It will tidy up the engine bay a fair bit.
Then ill be putting in a BF XR6T airbox where the gas converter was and piping it off the gas carbie to the airbox. Which will get rid of the K&N pod that just sort of sat off the side of where it was.

I think it will look sweet.

More to come soon.

Was good to see Barney at the AFD. If I am not mistaken its our 4TH oldest car in the club behind Doug's Mustang and XB Panelvan and Karen's XW.

Was good to have it there, Even if it wasnt at a more completed point.
Should be good by the end of the week i hope.

Just move the converter, put in the air box, pipe the air duct, re-run coolant lines.

I was thinking of a gilmer drive set, but then id have to go with a thermo fan system.
I'll ponder on that a bit later.

Job done...Pretty much.

Just got to tune the Gas Research Carbie and work out what im doing with the air box.
Im waiting on jets from GRA to arrive for tuning and that can be done, 2 air boxes i have.

The BF one i have is way too deep and with the BF box in its entirety it sits on top of the power steer pump and the bonnet doesnt shut. To retain it id have to cut off pretty much 3/4 of it then plastic weld it, or seal some other way.

I do have another airbox, just not a falcon one... Or Ford make either.
But it does fit the space quite well.

Here's what the BF box looks like(below) minus the bottom.

if you look on the bottom of the aribox at the front you will find a small stand, cut that off, and you will also see a small pad on the bottom up the front a few mill thick you can grind that till its flush with the rest of the bottom of the airbox that will give you some more clearance and that could help, also if you tilt the high side of the box a bit down and the low side of the top up that couold help you with closing the bonnet.

You may find that a BA air intake would fit better andrew as they are a different shape to the BF panel type.

And I just happen to have one in my garage. :
