Hi Guys,
I've just started having problems in the last few days with the XR6 not idling well. On a cold start it idles like a dream, but once it's been warmed up the idle is all over the place from 600RPM to 1000RPM and anywhere inbetween. It will sometimes hold at 800, blip up and down e.t.c I've reset the ECU and disconnected/reconnected the connector for the ISC and it's not helped. I have cleaned out the ISC and TB about 3 or so months ago so I don't think it's all cruddy again yet. When it blips it's idle, you can hear the intake noise (like when you turn the steering wheel when stopped). You can also feel the car poke forward while cruising at speed as well (as if the cruise control is blipping the throttle). Any ideas? Or best to take it into a mechanics? |

my cousins au2 has exactly the same problem, the idle really hunts when u are parked and turn the steering wheel and u can hear a sucking noise at the throttle body intake when u turn the wheel. any ideas. and it didnt do it until he just replaced the battery.

Could be a vacuum leak in the intake somewhere - try intake manifold bolts and PCV as starting points. Have you replaced the ISC? If you've cleaned it and that hasn't helped, then it could need a new one. There's not much that controls idle apart from having a sealed intake system (no leaks), and a working ISC valve.

Yeah I haven't really checked bolts on the intake side of things, might give that a go tommorow. I've got a feeling it could be the ISC though, the spring mechanism inside looks a bit thrashed.
Don't suppose anybody has a photo of a relatively good-condition ISC? (The valve/spring section). |
