Default South African GT's

Hey guys,
This is before my time and I dont know much about old GT's. I've been looking at Australian muscle car sales and theres a couple of south african XY's for sale, what is a south african gt exactly? were they made there, or exported there from australia? were there any differences in options, specs etc. Are they seen as a collectable here in aust, more-so then the aussie GT's?
any info would be greatly appreciated, cheers

AFAIK pretty much exactly the same but more fairmont based interior and a couple of things on the outside where different. Same mechanics though. Bargain!

Were they built in Australian and are a JG or were they built in South Africa.

I think Polyal is right, more a fairmont than a GT.

Not my cup of tea to be honest, but each to thier own.

The only reason they were badged as 'Fairmont GT' in Seth Aefrika is because of the negative stigma associated with the Falcon name over there (early Falcons fell to pieces on their roads)

Apart from interior and body trim differences, it is the same car as the Australian-market GT (NOT the HO) apart from the chassis number as it was prefixed MS33 or similar, whereas local ones were JG33, and the cars were shipped in CKD form if I recall...

Thanks JPFS1
thats really helpful. So according to that website, the south african XY fairmont GT is pretty much exactly the same as our XY Falcon GT, they called them fairmont's over in SA because the falcon name had a bad reputation due to importing 1960-62 american falcons and been unreliable.
They were tagged MS33 instead of JG33.
They were built over here but exported and then assembled over in South Africa.
I also didnt know that two XY phase 3's were exported over there. thats cool

I have a mate with a couple. The interior resembles the FUTURER not the FAIRMONT as the AUS GT,s, but yes they are called FAIRMONT GT and have unique FAIRMONT GT badge on the boot mould. Mechanically the same.
