Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anyone has an XR5 Turbo. If so what are the positives and negatives, I'm about to lay down the coin for one. Is there much difference between the MA and MB model, is it worth paying extra for the MB? I know its a matter of opinion between models but any feedback appreciated. 40,000km on mine and only the following issues:
* Issues with the keyless start - eventually solved under warranty, seem to have been addressed in later cars * Water leak from airconditioning into drivers footwell - fixed first time under warranty * Water off the hatch - issue logged with Ford via dealer, fixed on later cars Never regretted optioning the Bluetooth (some phones have more function than others!) - that & the sunroof were the only option. The torque delivery & handling still impresses. Its a great & comfortable car for interstate runs, even fully loaded.

Thanks for the reply DRU842. Water leak from A/C sounds like a worry, it isn't a common problem is it? At least they fixed it properly first time. Considering your car has done 40,000kms that isn't too bad I guess.

In my opinion it would be worth paying the extra (within reason of course) for the MB simply because of resale value. As well as the updates.

Got a late MA model myself. I think September 08, but I bought it new on feb this year. I have done nearly 12,000 K's.
I love it. So far it has not had an issue and it's a pleasure to drive. After the Focus hassles I had, it's nice getting a little piece of mind again. If I was buying again, I would have got the MB. There is some nice new technology in the MB, and my MA is bare bones. I never got the Blue tooth Option, which i regret. I also want a sunroof. If you can afford it, get the MB, but if you don't care about the nice technology, then get the MA. (On the MA, blue tooth was an option) Essentially the same car(engine, gearbox, shape) interior is a little different with brushed Aluminum gone and nice stitching on the seats and sports pedals. And the MA has better wheels. The new wheels on the MB I'm not a fan off. You should be able to get a good deal on any new MA's on the market. A few of the issues such as water leaks have been fixed in later MA's. Also we got the better exhaust tips than earlier builds. :hihi: Ours is Ink Blue which apparently is not available for the MB. |

Mines an early 2008, love it. 46,000ks and no issues I did have the keyless start fail, dealer picked up the car and replaced the module, back on the road the next day. Very nearly traded it on an FG F6 when it was about 12 months old, came so close I could smell it but in the end I just loved the Mondeo so much I kept it.

I have Nov 07 build MA which I collected Feb 08. Only issues have been failure of the keyless start which it took the dealer 3 weeks to fix, plus water holding in the hatch window rubber, which drops into the boot when the hatch is lifted. Ford say this meets the specification!
My only regret is the dealer I used, total rubbish, ( I actually have a stonger opinion, but would probably get removed from the forum if I posted it uncensored!!!!!!!!!). I now use a different dealership for servicing. The car is great to drive, performance when I want it, plus good fuel economy when just cruising. The low down torque also reduces the need to change gear too often when in town. I am glad I went for the bluetooth, easy to both dail out and receive calls, I can also use the head unit to dial numbers into the phone. Don't use the voice control much, seems a bit of a gimmick when most things can be controlled from the wheel once you get used to doing it, and climate control tends to be set at a constant temperature. Hopefully it will help the re-sale value.

I have a thunder 08 (MA) and I love it. It has 35,ooo km on the clock and runs really weel. No problems, touch wood. I had the rear hatch water holding problem fixed through ford. I know with the bluetooth occasionally my HTC and the Modeo have a little fight and dont communicate with each other. I turn the phone off then on and fixed. For value for money you cant get better.

Mine is a Sea Grey 2008 model.
I have only had minor issues - water in the hatch (which I can't seem to get fixed through Ford), scuffing on the back bumper and one problem starting. I went with the bluetooth and sunroof. No regrets at all. Tempted to go up to the MB model but not enough there for me to make the switch. |

The water dripping into the hatch should have been fixed now - I think it was done on all cars that were build after April 08. If you are to buy one to check make sure it has a rubber strip that comes out about half a centimetre from the glass, all the way around - if it doesn't you're going to have the same problems a lot of us have had.

Could anyone supply a photo of new rubber applied to rear of hatch to stop leaking? I am picking up my car sometime next week and I want to make sure it is has been fixed before pick up. Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Your getting an MB so you will be ok. My MA has the new rubbers from factory. There is athread on this forum. Don't worry the problem is MA not MB
