Default Idling rough, conks out

Can anyone tell me why my car is idling rough? It's a 1992 KH S 1.8L Ford Laser. I have changed the leads, plugs, air filter, fuel filter, oil, oil filter, distributor cap and I'm waiting on a new rotor button. But the car idles on like 500rpm and when it's warmed up it often coughs and splutters and some times conks out altogether. Is it just the rotor button or timing or what? Can anyone help Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease???? It's driving me nuts! Thanks in advance

How does it go in normal driving? Does it still play up?

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

There is a screw near the throttle body you can twist to bring the idle up you could give that a try if it's only happening around idle

Hey,
I can so agree with what you are saying i have a Ax ford telstar 94 model and mine is doing the same thing and i have replaced the same plus more and its still doing and its driving me nuts too. can anyone help either of us?

go with mr juicy - tweek the idle adjustment
an undo the battery termianls that resets the computer if EFI

if no better you need a diagnostic of the engine management computer
if a carby model
check vaccume dashpots for choke
and secondary stage of the carby

check for vaccume leaks

Sounds like the throttle body unit could be needing a clean or you could try giving the engine a decarb !!!! It could also be the automatic choke not shutting off fully !! There should be info on the forums about how to check these issues.

I am pretty sure you will find that the 1.8 motors were all EFI no carby ???

i would adjust idle and use some carb clean and spray around the inlet manifold to check for leaks,if the idle picks up in a certain area there you go.just leave the carb assembly on so the spray doesnt go down carb

Hi, when all the normal things have been tried, it's usually the ignition module in the distributor breaking down , cost $65!. Chrisshu
