Sorry I think I have missed the full story, are you saying your Fiesta is saying somewhere on it that it isn't made in Germany?

As for Focus, all current Focus (LS-LV) except for XR5 are made in South Africa, like many VW's, BMW's, etc. Just because the badge orginates from a country doesn't mean certain models are built in that country.

No Barra 240t,

He's found a sticker in his engine bay that says "Made in Belgium"

He's therefore assumed that the whole car is made in Belgium, and that Ford has been deceptive.

But he has mistaken a sticker on a PART that is made in Belgium, with the idea of the whole car being made in Belgium.

His car will have been made in Germany, and if he supplied the VIN as asked, that could be further confirmed

Okay guys, reading through the answers made me check the relevant spots.
The car is assembled in Ford Werke GMBH.
The VIN is WFO.
Parts from other countries are obviously included. I agree about the headlights.
If it is true that some mechanicals are shared with the Mazda 2 then that should be good to.
The fact that it is assembled in a German factory is the clincher for quality IMO.
barra240t: I thought the Fiesta was made in the Czech Republic. But only some parts are.
melbzetec: I said Czech Republic, not Belgium.

Thanks everybody for sorting that out.

Sorry. You're right.

You said Focus was made in Belgium.

(Which it's not)

A VIN starting with WFO means the vehicle is built by Ford Europe - Ford Werke GMBh= WFO, but doesn't mean it is built in Germany, could be built wherever Ford of Europe has a plant that builds that vehicle. I think the Cologne build code in GG, and Valencia build is definitely WP. The Saarlouis build is GC. These letters are buried in a designated section of the VIN, towards the end before the batch numbers.

Actually I have 2 stickers.....one says Aug/09 the other says 10/09....the older one looks more genuine as it says build date.

One will be the build date of the frame and the other when it was assembled.

Hi everyone, it seemed appropriate to raise my issue here. I have a new Fiesta 5 door Zetec - I am a bit suspicious that it may not be a 1.6. Mainly due to the diagram in the manual that exactly fits the layout of my engine. The diagram for the 1.6 looks quite different. I have searched high and low in the engine bay and inside of the doors etc. but can not find the CC size of the engine specified anywhere - can anybody help?

Hey mate, is it a manual or auto? Also possible the manual could be wrong?

It's a manual, the autos come in 1.4 configs only in Oz and to get the 1.6 you have to go a manual transmission.....but yeah, as you say...the manual could be wrong but it is all rather suspicious when there is no engine size specified anywhere and they do have 1.4 Manual Zetecs in Europe.

My X5's VIN starts WBAFB. W = Germany, but the car is actually built in Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA.

VIN Numbers are sometimes deceptive.

Reading the wiki on VINS, it appears that WA-W0 = Germany

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle...rer_Identifier

Perhaps manufacturer & assembler are not the same with regards to the VIN?

At some stage there clearly was a shift from German to US manufacture of the X5.

Wiki still says, "All X5s worldwide are manufactured in Germany.":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_X5
But the Spartenburg site says:
"Due to the structure of BMW's production plan, however, the Spartanburg plant does not actually assemble all BMW vehicles sold in the US market; instead, the plant serves as the only X5, X6, and Z4 production site in the world. Hence, all models of these vehicles exported worldwide originate from BMW Spartanburg"

You are reading the VIN incorrectly. The 11th digit is the 'Plant Code" which will tell you where the car is assembled.

Does anyone know when Australian Fiestas will start to become Thai-built? We're looking to buy a Zetec, but I'd like to hold off now til Jan to get a 2010 plate car. If everything 2010 onwards will be Thai, I'll reconsider and get a 2009 plate on runout next year.

By mid 2010 Fiestas and Maxda 2's will start to be shipped over from Thailand. German stock will continue to flow through till at least May, but the quicker you order come 2010 the better you will be in terms of getting a German Fiesta considering expected waiting lists. Hope this helps.

I was told it will be late Jan/early Feb to get a 2010 plate. As they're not really offering any incentive pricing to shift 09 models, I'll just wait I think.

I got told today that the Thai built Fiesta will be closer to the US Fiesta than the current German model? Not sure how accurate that is?
