PS: I believe radar is generally credited to a Scot named Watt who was some relative of James Watt (inventor of the steam engine).

I think the CSIRO developed a low frequency RADAR...funny enough it found a top secret US plane that they were testing out here.

Our DME, DMEA was also FAR superior to the currend DMEI as it had much longer range but we lost the band (220Mhz) to digital TV.

GPS requires satellites that are controlled by outside forces, DME/VOR is local to the aid and aircraft.

I have had several experiences when GPS has fallen over.
Never had a letdown go wrong (well other than me stuffing it up of course)

Yes perhaps more accurate, but not nessacery as reliable.
