It is pretty cool, I know our daughter loves it when we put up christmas lights. We do a few, but some people must spend ages planning and setting up...

Its pulling them down after christmas that sucks!

We did it for 8 or so years the Mrs. adding to the stack each year . in the end it would take 4 days to set them up including a 3 mete high santa on the roof, Kangaroos with Joeys pulling a sleigh with 6packs of VBs in there pouches , we even made the local paper one year, it would take 2 days to remove them all, in the end we just got sick of the vandals and thieves after evicting a few off the roof , Even poor old Santa copped a slug or 2 in the shoulder : But it was great for all the kids to see
Only pick I can find is one we had done into a calendar so I have just scanned it in

We have a street in town where all the residents get together and put up this massive display. They hand out lollies to the kids. They don't ask, but they also take donations which go to the lions club or community hospice. However every year 1 ****ing house in the middle ruins it.

I love showing my daughter the lights and I appreciate the effort people go to. I tried once but I didn't have the patience lol.

Ive started doing this in the last 5 years...seems that i accumulate
a few extra sets each year ( wait till xmas eve & they go on sale) ....
Takes about 2 days to setup ... is a real bugga to tear down...but the kids get a kick out of it... Would be nice if some neighbours joined in as well...looks good when there are a few in a row with lights....

I don't understand what it is with these idiots People do something nice for the kids, and these clowns come along and ruin it for everyone. One can only hope after they fall off the roof and break their legs, they land in a puddle with a live current wrapped around their necks from the lights they juat tried to steal. That would be my christmas dream come true :

Have you ever tried to smear a little oil on the roof tiles in certain spots. So when they step on it, down they come.

Been doing lights for years, but not too many.
Am seriously thinking about computer controlling some. Start here if you're interested: http://www.doityourselfchristmas.com/
I think the Grinch controller is the cheapest.

I have been doing it for years and will continue, about half of Whoosa'a effort though well done mate.
No vandal probs in my street to date, I just worry sometimes the house may catch fire from a short now that would be an impressive light show NOT hehe

hahaha awesome picture.

I've done my house for the last few years, just putting up white icicle lights on each of the gutters on the roof (above garage, then above living room and bedroom on the other side and the top pinicle of the house), a couple of lit up reindeer in the front yard, and some more icicles around the front door with a nice wreath. Not a fan of coloured lights and all the gimicky Santa stuff. No pics though

I live near Wickfield st in Bracken ridge, every year that street turns into "wickfield wonderland" (its on youtube) and the amount of traffic including tour busses and people walking around is crazy but if you like seeing all the christmas lights its a great sight.
Couldn't imagine the effort it must take for some of those setups.

Anyone in Adelaide see that amazing house on king William street? That's the most tasteful Christmas light display I've ever seen. I don't think they take it down either, would be a nightmare climbing the tree all the time!

I was speaking to the winner of the East Brisbane comp, and they reckon it takes them three months to put up and about the same to take down.

Crazy.

I get the shits spending half an hour putting lights up.

There is a stunning house on Concord road, just before the steel bridge.

On the left had side, as you're going towards Ryde etc.

Lit up more than any other that I have seen.
