Unhappy No sound rear speakers

Hi all

My AUII has lost the sound in the rear speakers. Its a standard system, no amp.
I only noticed the other day. The cables look OK on th speakers.

Anyone had this problem with an AU?

They might look ok at the speaker connection, but what about to the headunit??? Have you taken the HU out to inspect it???

Check the simple things first in case someone has been "fiddling". Check the fader control on the HU. If it isn't that I would say there is actually a problem in the HU itself.

If both speakers were working OK and suddenly they aren't it doesn't really indicate a speaker problem - it would be extremely coincidental for both to die at the same time. And if the HU is working OK otherwise then it doesn't indicate a wiring problem because the wiring to all speakers is in the one multiplug along with the HU input etc. Unless the rear wiring has been compromised in some way - has anyone had
any of the interior trim/seats or anything out lately? - may have pinched the wiring loom on reassembly.

However before you throw the HU away it might pay to test another known good speaker in each of the rear speaker positions just to see if there is a signal present.

Could be trim related (few months ago) I haven't touhed the unit never taken it out etc. Tried the fader and when I oput it fully to rear no sound. Bring it back to front lots of sound and volume.

i think you can test the speakers using a AA or D size battery. touch the speaker cables to the battery terminals (pos to pos, neg to neg) and the speaker 'cone' should 'pop' out each time you make contact. if they dont move then theyre most likely knackerd.

A quick google has told me never to use a 9v because the DC current is too much and can fry speakers?!

Have a read of this anyways: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8831

Hi Double check the speakers and make sure the little white insulator has not pulled away from the speaker frame and is allowing the speaker wiring to short out (a very common problem) it is fixable if the wires have not pulled out of the cone but if it has happened be very careful removing the plugs Cheers MD
