Default Heat shields and extractors!

right now my under bonnet temps are pretty disgraceful and im looking at ways of reducing it once the car gets back on the road
i have pacemaker 4480s for anyone wondering, which obviously dont fit under the factory heatshield
i had a chat with shav about his heatshield that he had made up and it looks very impressive

has anyone else done anything similar and ran into any problems? im just weighing up the pros and cons
would i be better off getting the headers heatproof coated?
is it of benefit to get HPC and the heatshield as well?
should i look at things like different thermostats etc?

Put a cover over them, or any shields, and you will void your warranty.

Hey Cory,

if you're not worried about the warranty, another option i have seen is heat wrap on the headers as well as the heat shield. You could also consider stick on heat mat fitted to the underside of the shield too, but that wont stop heat itself, but it will reduce radiant heat to ancillary items like brake booster, master cylinder and the accelerator cable.

Better option though is ceramic coating.

What I have on my car has reduced some of the radiant but in my opinion has only stopped the accelerator cable and master cylinder from melting to bits. The hot air and heat from the rocker cover still heats the intake pipe heaps. Something I plan to rectify later on.

What effect would heat wrap have on the cat? Would the temperature of the escaping gas be amplified, and cause damage to the cat?

I don't think it would damage the cat because one would think that ceramic
coating would damage cats due to the same reason if that was the case...??

my brother tells me you can buy the heat shield stuff from repco, sorry i don`t remember the dimensions but it was quite big for about $135.00.

yes I think that comes in a sheet that you bend to your liking. Personally its ugly. But it does the job ok.

I installed the factory heat shield on my HM headers on the XR6, havent had any problems, been on there for 6 years.

if its alum/alloy shield then heat will be far less than stainless. Just that stainless looks better

pacemaker warranty is 24 months am i right? what is HPC worth? i guess theres probably an hour and a half's labour in taking off the headers and putting them back on and between the two i suppose they would have to be sent off somewhere, a normal exhaust place wouldnt do that sort of thing would they?

and just out of curiosity, how does a heatshield void warranty, as in does it damage the extractors somehow?

To get mine Ceramic coated in Brisbane cost $275 from memory,
The set on the current car I got done by Pacemaker from new
which added 220 NZ to the price, now if I hadn't had towait 7
weeks for them to arrive I wouldn't have excepted them.
The coating is crap compared to the last set.
I think HPC is one of those things, better spending the extra dollars
as the result will prob be a lot nicer.

it looks crap or doesnt reduce the heat much? i guess i did the right thing not getting pacemaker HPC extractors then lol

Honestly can't answer that question because both were brand new headers.
But compared to the standard manifold and heat shield I would say it
was a significant reduction going by the feel of the bonnet temp.

No as in the look of them. Don't get me wrong they were nice out of the box
but just no where near as thick or as cleaner finish as the ones I had done else where.

yeah i got my 4499's fitted yesterday iv got to put the Standed heat sheld back on the guy at the exhust joint would not do it

Same here on my AUII Forte with the 4480s. A couple of the holes line up and the shield can be bent into place once bolted in - which is all that is needed as the shield isn't load bearing. It does stop a lot of the radiated heat, but it still gets warm under there.
